Lorraine leaves this earthly life as an exceptionally kind and gentle wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend. It’s hard not to marvel at the way that she lived her 103 ½ years – active, alert, funny and determined to keep on keeping on – resilient to more than a few hardships, injuries or illnesses that would sideline the rest of us. My brothers and I remember Lorraine and Jul stopping in at my parents’ home when we young. They always had something for their nephews – usually reams of colored paper from the paper mill in Neenah; later, polished stones from Jul’s lapidary work. Lorraine would laugh as Jul flipped each us in the air in his version of a flying somersault. There were Sunday afternoon trips to the cottage on Stratton Lake in Waupaca that ended with one of her meals; she was an excellent cook and there was always plenty of food. She perhaps never learned that her young nephews knew that there was no wall dividing the top shelves of closets in adjacent upstairs bedrooms at the cottage. (She perhaps never learned that we tested that knowledge by clambering from the top shelf of Butch’s bedroom closet through the missing "wall" to the top shelf of the closet in her bedroom). Jul and Lorraine were at birthdays, confirmations, graduations, weddings, family reunions – I can still hear their voices as they laughed and laughed. Our lives are the better for having her in ours. She rests with her Lord; for her life lived out in faith, we have joy. Well done, good and faithful servant. Love from Dave, Tami, Braden, Riley, Griffin, Britin and Regan
