HUGH WAITE

Hugh Waite, age 73, of Menasha, passed away on Friday. June 4, 2021, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on November 11, 1947, to the late Judd and Grace (Pribbernow) Waite in Clintonville, WI.  While growing up on Cloverleaf Lakes, Clintonville, Hugh enjoyed hunting with his dad and his brothers, Jim and Gene. He also enjoyed fishing, especially with Jim Karlson, who has remained a lifelong friend.

Hugh graduated from Clintonville High School in 1966 and moved to Neenah.  He married Diane Schuler on October 11, 1969, at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz.   Hugh worked for Neenah Foundry and then Stowe Woodward in Neenah.  He retired from Stowe Woodward in 2009. 

Hugh and Diane had two children, Paula and Adam.  The family spent many weekends camping in a tent and fishing from a canoe.  Trips up to Cloverleaf Lakes were frequent and very special for the family.  Fishing remained a favorite pastime for Hugh, and he spent countless hours on Lake Winnebago in recent years with either his neighbor, Charlie or with Diane.   

Some of Hugh's best memories were spent with Diane on the 40 acres of land that they own in Manitowoc County.  Together with a few family members, they hand planted over 7,000 seedlings in the early 1990's.  The property has become a beautiful wildlife refuge and Hugh has since spent endless hours maintaining the trails, going for walks at the end of the day, and enjoying the abundance of wildlife.

Hugh's dream was to have a log cabin on their 40 acres.  A friend was clearing his land near New London and offered pine logs to Hugh. It was tedious, but Hugh enjoyed the task of hauling fresh logs from New London to his property and then stripping them by hand.  In 1995, he built his cabin with the help of his brother, Gene, and a few of his co-workers. He has since enjoyed spending memorable times there with his family and his hunting buddies.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughter, Paula (Julie Rudolph), his son, Adam (Anja), and his grandchildren, Emilia Waite, and Henri Waite.  He is also survived by his brothers, Jim (Glenace) Waite, and Gene (Darla) Waite; his brothers-in-law, Ronald (Maggie) Schuler, Charles (Sharon) Schuler and his sisters-in-law, Jean Walsh, and Janet (Bill) Sheehy and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Hugh was preceded in death by his sister, Treasure Miller and her husband, Harold; his father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Bernadine Schuler; his sister-in-law, Jan Schuler; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Walsh. 

The family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Klinkhammer and the amazing staff at Theda Care Oncology and Theda Care Hospice for their care and compassion.  Thank you also to Kim and Charlie Tassoul for their love and support throughout Hugh's illness.   This journey was difficult for Hugh and his family and the kindness of the medical community, neighbors, and friends is so appreciated.

According to Hugh's wishes, no service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Cancer Research Institute or the charity of your choice.
