VIRGILIA MERCER

Virgilia (Jill) Wolff Mercer, age 82, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2021, after suffering a stroke. She was born on March 28, 1939 in Madison, daughter of the late Gustave Frederick II and Elizabeth (Geraldine Utter) Wolff. Jill graduated from Wisconsin High School, class of 1957. She attended Wittenberg College in Ohio and then the University of Wisconsin Madison, where she earned a bachelor's degree in business.

After graduation, Jill remained an active member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She joined the management program at Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company before marrying Miles Mercer on June 1, 1963. As a couple, they began their married life in Elizabeth, New Jersey and eventually settled in Appleton, Wisconsin where they raised their four children. Jill came to know Christ through the ministry of Christian Women's Club of Stonecroft Ministries. Her faith led her to volunteer in many areas of her local church and community. She spent countless hours driving the church bus for Fox Valley Christian Academy (FVCA) and Calvary Bible Church youth events over the years. She also led nature hikes for local elementary children, as well as helping behind the scenes at the Community Clothes Closet. She loved horses, flowers, gardening and learning new crafts such as needlepoint, cross stitch, and basket weaving.

Jill is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Miles; her four children: Stephen (Melissa) Mercer, Hortonville, WI, Gail Moore, Franklin, TN, Anne (James) Torstenson, Wausau, WI, and Alan (Rebecca) Mercer, Overland Park, KS; 11 grandchildren: Kelly Mercer, Madeline (Jonathan) Bach, Jack Mercer, Emma Moore, Abigail Moore, Bethany Torstenson, Lydia Torstenson, Ethan Mercer, Katie Mercer, Ashley Mercer, and Jay Mercer; and one great grandchild, Nelson Bach. She is further survived by her brother, Gustave Frederick (Fritz) Wolff III, Lexington, KY.

A memorial service for Jill will be held 11:00 AM, on Monday June 21, 2021, at Calvary Bible Church, 1450 Oakridge Rd, Neenah, WI; with Elder Rob Strauss officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Monday morning from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM, with the memorial service to begin at 11:00 AM.
