SAMUEL HARTMANN

Samuel “Sam” F. Hartmann, 89, of Neenah passed away peacefully on August 9, 2021. The son of the late Herbert and Mildred Hartmann, he was born on March 19, 1932, in Watertown, Wisconsin. Sam married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Buss, on June 6, 1953. For 9 years he served in the Watertown National Guard and retired after 26 years working in the engineering department at the Neenah Foundry. He served several years on the Winnebago County Board, as well as the Neenah Foundry Credit Union's Board of Directors. Sam was also a longtime, active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and volunteered as a Senior League coach for Neenah Baseball.

Sam enjoyed competing in cycling, distance running, cross-country skiing, hockey, and racquetball. After retirement, he took up woodworking and enjoyed sharing his creations and participating in local craft fairs. At the age of 87, he taught himself how to play the ukulele and the banjo – one of his greatest pleasures was jamming with his friends at the Highlands at Mahler Park! Throughout the years, Sam and his wife enjoyed traveling all over the United States and abroad. Some of their most memorable adventures were their missionary trips, including a trip to Guatemala with their children. For many years, Sam looked forward to spending winters in The Villages, Florida, playing golf and pickle ball with his friends.

Sam is survived by his wife Jackie of 53 years, his daughter, Nancy (Todd) Stevenson, his son, Patrick (Claudia Arzeno) Hartmann, his grandchildren, Ashley Stevenson, Amber (Nathan) Otis, and Mariana Hartmann, and his great grandchildren, Madeline and Theodore Otis. He is further survived by his sister, Sally Black; brothers-in-law Terry (Donna) Buss, Curt (Janis) Buss, and Philip (Nancy) Buss; sisters-in-law, Carol Klug, Patsy Boyd, Phyllis Buss and Linda Buss; and many nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by parents, his son, Mark, in-laws Marge and Harvey Buss, brothers- in-law Timmy Buss, Rodger Buss, Kenneth Buss, and Emerson Black, and sisters-in-law, Eileen Stewalt, Faye Krebs, and Nancy Buss.

A memorial service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 809 South Commercial St., Neenah, on Monday, August 16, 2021.  MASKS ARE MANDARTORY. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The service begins at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Neenah, or to a charity of your choice in Sam's name.

Sam's family extend their deepest thanks to the health care providers for the care given and compassion for Sam in his final weeks.
