BRIAN SCHREIBER

Obituary

Dr. Brian Dean Schreiber, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Brian was born September 12, 1957 in Brooklyn, NY to the late William and Rycca (Edenbaum) Schreiber.

Following in his father's footsteps, Brian pursued a career in medicine and graduated from Brandeis University before completing medical school at SUNY Buffalo.

Brian spent his adult life serving the communities in which he lived as a physician and nephrologist. His authentic generosity and dedication to his patients was unmatched. He was known to deliver fresh dumpling soup to his hospitalized patients and hold genuine conversations to brighten their spirits. Dr. Schreiber's heart was admirable and authentic, and he was undoubtedly happiest when spreading kindness.

After moving to Wisconsin in 1992, Dr. Schreiber served numerous hospitals throughout the Fox Valley and was proud of his time as Chief Medical Director of Dialysis Care Inc., a dialysis chain providing services in northeast and central Wisconsin. After retiring from practice, he continued his activities in academia, published a variety of papers, articles and textbook chapters, gave lectures and symposia, and devoted the rest of his career to researching and developing medications and potential cures for rare diseases. His passion and purpose was to make medications affordable and more readily available to those who needed them.

In his spare time, Brian served on the Board of the Medical College of Wisconsin and other medical career-related boards. He also kept busy by gardening, horseback riding, cooking and smoking meats, and spending time on the water. He loved music - both playing and composing. The way he could pick up any instrument and play it flawlessly was incredible. More than anything, though, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved sharing his knowledge and hobbies with his daughters and granddaughters, supporting their activities, and simply enjoying their company.

Along with his parents, Brian was preceded in death by his beloved step-parents, Edith and Jack Feldstein who graciously and wholeheartedly treated Brian and his daughters as their own.

Brian is survived and will be tremendously missed by his daughters Rachel Schreiber and Whitney Schreiber, and his step-daughter, Jill (Greg) Aykens; his granddaughters Emily Aykens, Lizzy Aykens, Annie Aykens, Charlotte Grones and Julia Grones; his sister Nancy (Jeff) Nesvet; his brothers Oscar Schreiber and Richard Schreiber; his niece Rebecca (Wes Schroeder) Nesvet; and his nephews Matthew Nesvet and Bradley and Eric Schreiber.

A private graveside service will be held for Brian at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh. Friends and family will be invited to join in a celebration of life to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers - and in honor of Brian's devotion to medical research and music - donations can be made in Brian's name to the Medical College of Wisconsin or Hungry for Music, a nonprofit organization that collects musical instruments and donates them to underserved youth with a hunger to learn and play.

We will remember you at every meal we share, every milestone reached, every Simon and Garfunkel melody we hear - not a single day will pass when we shall not cherish your legacy of knowledge, goodwill and love.
