RICHARD VIAL

Richard Julius Vial passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2021 at the age of 90. He was the son of Sidney and Gertrude Vial. He was born during the Depression and raised with his brothers in Ishpeming, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jackie, and his two children, Penny Schneidewend of Neenah and Richard Vial of Tempe, Arizona. He is further survived by his grandsons, Andrew (Sara Tolley) Schneidewend and Peter Schneidewend, three great grandchildren, Drew, Brad and Paxton, his brother, David (Sue) Vial, his sister-in-law, Virginia LaForest and many nieces and nephews.

He left school at a young age to work manual labor and met his wife, Jackie Keck, at the age of 16 in Marquette, Michigan. They married when he was 17 and they relocated to the Doty Island area of Neenah/Menasha. He worked hard and was your typical blue collar union supporting man. His career started with 5 years at the Neenah Foundry, but he spent the next 40 years as a pressman at the Washington Street Plant as it changed hands from Marathon, American Can, James River and Georgia Pacific.

He enjoyed fishing and could fix anything. His greatest pride was his family. His grandson, Andrew, wrote "Farewell Papa. You were such a major part of my life growing up and I thank you for being my role model. You taught me how to be strong, hardworking, handy, funny, caring, responsible, respectful, and independent. You proved the saying "the good die young" is wrong, and 90 years is a damn good life! My heart hurts so much right now but in a way, it doesn't feel like you're gone because I sit here and think of all the great memories, and I can feel you are still with us. Your great legacy will live on. I love you so darn much! You will be missed but never forgotten." A private graveside service was held in Neenah.

Richard's family would like to extend a special thank you to Tiff and the Staff at Lake Point Villa for the care and respect that was shown to him during this very hard time. The fact that Richard was with his wife at the end was the ultimate gift.
