NANCY DOLEYSH

Nancy Jean Doleysh, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday December 5, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in Wausau on July 25, 1951, daughter of the late John “Sid” and Betty (Rogers) Krohn. Nancy married Michael Doleysh on July 28, 1973.

Nancy graduated from Wausau High School, class of 1969. She continued her education at UW-Stevens Point, where she graduated in 1973 with her degree in instrumental music education. Nancy taught band for over 37 years, including time at St. Pius, St. Thomas More, and Xavier High School in Appleton, and retired after 20 years of service as the band teacher at South Park Middle School in Oshkosh. She was a co-conductor of the Lawrence University Middle Level Honors Band with her husband Mike and had the opportunity to work side-by-side with her son, Tim, while he was Director of Bands at Oshkosh West High School. Nancy also was a guest conductor at various clinics and camps throughout Wisconsin as she had a passion for sharing her love of music with others.

Nancy enjoyed spending time “up north” in Crandon, with her family. Her ties to the Crandon area are strong as her great grandparents owned and operated the Hellstrom Hotel, and her grandparents owned and operated the Krohn Variety Store. Nancy further enjoyed scrapbooking, quilting, giving her time and talent to support veterans, learning more about her family history, and thrifting with her friends, Bonnie and Maggie. Her greatest enjoyment came from time spent with her friends and family. She enjoyed watching her grandson play sports, helping her granddaughter with arts and crafts, helping both with flute, piano, and trumpet, going for walks and having lunch with Tim, and spending her winters in Florida with Mike.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Mike of Appleton; son, Timothy (Jill) of Appleton; two grandchildren: Abigail and Michael Doleysh of Appleton; brother, Michael Krohn of Rothschild; mother in-law, Eunice Doleysh of Manitowoc; friends at Edgewater Pines, Florida, who were like family; and her many cousins who were like her brothers and sisters. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John “Sid” and Betty (Rogers) Krohn; sister, Carol Krohn; sister in-law, Patricia Krohn, and father in-law, Wilfred “Butch” Doleysh.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday December 16, 2021, at EMMANUEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 740 W College Ave, Appleton, with Rev. Ben Morris officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday morning beginning at 11:00 until the 1:00 PM service. A private family burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Crandon.
