THOMAS WASKIEWICZ

Thomas “Tom” Waskiewicz, 77, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 20, 2021. After a 21 year courageous battle with many medical complications, his  kind-hearted spirit never waivered. Throughout his battles with his own health, he always put others before himself.

Tom was born on October 29, 1944, to the late Edward and Cornelia Waskiewicz.  Tom graduated from Menasha High School in 1962.  He was united in marriage with his true love Margaret “Peggy” (Birling) Waskiewicz on July 29, 1967, and shared 54 beautiful years together.  Tom was a dedicated, hard worker for George Banta Company for 44 years. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend. Golf was one of Tom's passions with the opportunity to become a professional golfer. Instead, he shared this love with his golfing buddies, his sons-in-law, and his grandson. He truly adored his grandchildren and children and faithfully attended every sporting event, even virtually right up until the end. 

Supporting Wisconsin sports teams was one of his favorite pastimes. His proudest moments were spent with his family watching sports, organizing backyard games, and playing cards. Tom faithfully attended mass on a weekly basis, either in person or virtually.  In his final moments, he shared a prayer with his family at his side. We will always cherish his encouraging words, text messages, and loving embraces. 

Tom's family was his pride and joy. With his gentle spirit and strength, he modeled integrity, compassion, faith, and the importance of being together as family. Tom is survived by those who loved him dearly: his wife, Peggy; three daughters: Becky (Steve “Reggie”) Reichelt, Vicky (Steve) Siegel, Jennie ( Daniel “Nick”) Gries: four grandchildren: Nick and Ashley Siegel and Madisen and Makenna Gries. He is further survived by sisters-in-law:  Joyce Kohanski, Carol (Terry) Schmitt, Nancy Pawlowski, Sue (Dwayne) Roth, Cindy (Eugene) Moseng, Debbie (Dan) Derks; brothers-in-law: David (Liz) Birling, Ted (Judy) Birling, Leon (Amber) Birling, Paul (Pam) Birling, Tim (Ann) Birling, Terry (Brenda) Birling; and many nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cornelia Waskiewicz; his brother Martin (Joan) Waskiewicz; his in-laws,Ted (Dorothy) Birling; sisters-in-law: Laurie Birling, Patt Birling; brothers-in-law: Peter Birling, Dick Kohanski, and Tom Pawlowski.

The family expresses their love and appreciation to every incredible doctor, nurse, and caregiver throughout the years. Tom's family is also grateful to St. Paul Elder Services Hospice Team for their love and compassion. 

The funeral service for Tom will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere St., Menasha.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
