BERTRAM HELMS

Bertram H. Helms, age 87 of Mulberry, FL, formerly of Neenah, WI and Verona, VA, died peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Lakeland Hills Center in Lakeland, FL.

He was born May 7, 1934, in Winneconne, WI, son of the late Henry and Ruth (Carow) Helms. Bert was a graduate of Neenah High School. In 1956 he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served in the Sea Bees during his enlistment. While serving Bert met Muriel Nielsen, and they married on November 23, 1957, in Brooklyn, NY. Muriel preceded him in death on August 3, 2001. Bert worked for the George Banta Company, retiring in 1996 after more than 30 years of service.

Bert loved baseball. He couldn't wait for the season to start and hated to see it end. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and was overjoyed to see his beloved Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Bert was an avid collector of baseball cards and coins. He was a lifetime bowler and enjoyed playing bingo.

Bert is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Diane (Rob) Pulda of Appleton, WI, Susan (Amy Pelishek) Helms of Appleton, WI, and Karen (Tom) Ott of Weyers Cave, VA; four grandchildren, Steven (Julie) Pulda and Amy Pulda of Neenah, WI, Jennifer Ott of Stuarts Draft, VA and Adam Ott of Richmond, VA; five great-grandchildren, Ella, Harper, and Meadow Ott and Ivy and Miles Pulda; sister Mary (Stan) Bork and niece Tina (Jim) Jaeckels of New London, WI along with other relatives.

In addition to his wife Muriel, he was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, and brother John F. Helms.

The family wishes to thank Fred Holderbaum for his friendship to Bert along with the staff at Lakeland Hills Center for providing him with care and comfort.

At Bert's request, there will not be a service. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-noon, on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Westgor Funeral Home, Neenah. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Neenah.
