Obituary

Donald (Don) W. Solomon, 88, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022.

Don was born on September 28, 1933, in Neenah, Wisconsin. He was the second of the three children of Fred and Mabel (Barnstable) Solomon. Don grew up in Neenah and graduated from Neenah High School in 1952. He entered the Navy after graduating, and served on the USS Colahan from 1952-1954, and at Balboa Naval Hospital from 1954-1956. Don married his wife, Barbara, in 1955. Following his military service, Don returned to the Fox Valley where he and Barbara started a family. Don also continued his career, working at Manhattan Rubber Company for 14 years. Don retired from the Menasha Joint School district in 1995, where he served as a maintenance specialist for 24 years.

Don was an avid sportsman and bow hunter, and a devoted Packers fan. He enjoyed fishing for perch and weekend camping trips in Northern Wisconsin. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Neenah, the Wolf River Game Club, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Don participated in an Old Glory Honor Flight in 2014.

Don is survived by his wife Barbara and four children, Gregory Solomon of Menasha, WI, Michael (Teresa) Solomon of Chagrin Falls, OH, Jeffrey (Tim) Solomon of Green Bay, WI, and Todd (Nancy) Solomon of Alexander, AR. He was the beloved grandpa to five grandchildren, Matthew (Jeanette) Solomon, Tamara (Brian) Zeman, Amanda Solomon, Andrew (Natasha) Solomon, and Angela Solomon; and seven great-grandchildren, Donovan, Savannah, Owen, Elliott, Adrien, Wesley, and Finley. Don was further survived by his sister Patricia Stephan. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother Fred Solomon, Jr.

A private family service will be held at the Westgor Funeral Home on Saturday, January 22, 2022. To view the service, please visit the Westgor Funeral Home's Face book page at https://www.facebook.com/WestgorFuneralHomes.  A celebration of life will be held this summer.  

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at ThedaCare Medical Center, Neenah and ThedaCare At Home Hospice for the wonderful care Don received, even in these trying times. Donations in Don's memory may be made to First United Methodist Church, Neenah and Heckrodt Wetland Reserve, Menasha.
