THOMAS MUGGENTHALER

Thomas Anthony Muggenthaler, 79 passed away from pneumonia on February 15, 2022, at Carolina Assisted Living after a hard-fought three-year battle with Vascular Dementia.

Tom was born on June 13, 1942, to Anton and Helen (Fitzgibbon) Muggenthaler in Appleton, WI.  Tom spent one year at St. Lawrence Seminary and then returned to Appleton and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1960. Tom had several jobs after high school and after working at Neenah Foundry and coming home every day covered in black dust Tom decided it was time to go back to school and attended Appleton Technical School for two years earning a degree in 1968 in accounting.  His first job, after graduation, was at Pacon Corporation in Appleton.

One night in 1966 Tom and a friend decided to go to the Tropics in Green Bay and Tom asked Cheryl Stone to dance and then asked her out.  Two years later they were Married on October 26, 1968, in Green Bay. 

Tom grew up across the street from the tennis courts at Appleton West and became a very good tennis player and played for many years. He was one of the early members of the Appleton Tennis Club.   After they were married Cheryl's father took him golfing and golf became his number 2 favorite thing to do after tennis.  He was also an avid gym goer and in later years was there seven days a week.

Tom, Cheryl and their daughter Stephanie moved to California in 1985 and enjoyed 20 years in Orange, CA.  Tom did not swim but loved going to the beach and spent many hours enjoying the sunshine.  After Tom retired from Morehouse Industries in Fullerton, CA they moved back to Appleton in 2003 and enjoyed time with family and granddaughters.

Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl; daughter, Stephanie (Jon) Regal; and granddaughters: Tenley and Allyson Regal.  He is further survived by sisters: Mary (Roy) Langdon, Jean (Jeff) Koller; sisters-in-law: Wendy Stone and Kathleen (Ozzie)Schmidt; nieces: Gina (Todd) Johnson and Marisa (Paul) Smith; and great nephews: Jake Johnson,Tyler and Winston Smith; and his 95-year-old Uncle, Henry Fitzgibbon, of Florida.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Muggenthaler; and nephews: Mathew Langdon and Brian Lauterbach; and in-laws, Clair and Mable Stone.

The Funeral Service for Tom will be held on Monday March 14, 2022, at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00.  The service will take place, in the Chapel, at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Dan Luett officiating with interment to follow.

Toms' family thanks all the wonderful caring staff of Moments Hospice.  We so appreciate Carolina Assisted Living for their loving care and teasing Tom, that he loved, for the three years he lived there.  The entire staff at Carolina were all so kind to Tom and Cheryl and his family and we cannot thank them enough.
