Obituary
Richard “Dick” Shimek passed away February 21, 2022 at the age of 84.
Dick was born January 18, 1938 at Raymond, MN, the son of Charles J. Shimek and Elfie H. Mortensbak.
He attended Dr. Martin Luther High School at New Ulm, MN and graduated from Northwestern College, Watertown, WI in 1959 in preparation for the ministry. Dick graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, WI on June 4, 1963 as a pastor in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Prior to graduation, he spent 1 year as a vicar at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah, WI where he met his wife Carol (nee Kruse). They were married on June 5, 1963.
Dick served 3 churches in Stambaugh and Beechwood, MI and Tipler, WI from 1963 to1967. He served a church and school in Eau Claire, MI from 1967 to 1977 and also taught Latin and German for 2 years at Michigan Lutheran High School, Benton Harbor, MI where he also served on the Board of Control. Dick last served at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and school, Neenah, WI from 1977 to 1982 when he made the decision to leave the ministry and pursue some of his other interests and talents.
Following the ministry, Dick did apartment maintenance, custodial and handyman work and last worked in maintenance at a nursing home in Appleton, WI.
Dick loved going to and having garage sales. His favorite part was socializing with all the people and sharing his famous stories. He will be remembered for always giving a helping hand to family, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Shimek, step-father Erick Luckstein, mother Elfie Luckstein and brother Larry Luckstein.
He is survived by his wife Carol, son Paul (Connie) Shimek of Londonderry, NH and a son Mark Shimek of Neenah, WI. Also survived by his brother Donald (Rebecca) Luckstein, brother Charles (Sharon) Shimek, sister Linda (Fritz) Peters, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Barb Wilde, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service for Dick will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak Street, Neenah with Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Neenah.
