Obituary
James Robert Christensen age 73 of Menasha, died peacefully on March 28th 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept 6, 1948 to the late Lillian (Papp) Christensen and Carl Christensen.
Jim attended and graduated from Neenah High School in 1967. Two years later he was drafted and served two years in the Army with the 199th Infantry Brigade. He spent one year of that in Vietnam as the Lieutenant's radio telephone operator, earning the rank E-4 Specialist. In 1971 he was honorably discharged and awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Purple Heart.
He met his wife, Sally Dahl in 1974 at Minnows Bar and they were married two years later on Sept 18, 1976. Together they had two children.
Jim enjoyed fishing, dancing up a storm to the oldies, cheering on the Packers and Brewers, and watching cartoons. He could often be found out in the garage fixing up lawn mowers and snow blowers. Jim loved a good lawn mower find that he would bring home and fix up. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow up. Jim was a witty man with a good sense of humor that he passed on to his children.
He is survived by his wife Sally; his daughter, Erin Christensen of Menasha; his son Curt (Sally) Christensen of Black Creek; and grandchildren Cole and Raimy Christensen. He is furthered survived by his brother, John Christensen of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters-in-law: Alice (Lenny) Kelley of Neenah; Jessie Dahl of Texas; Della (Aubrey) Johnson of Florida; brothers-in-law: Dick (Lynn) Dahl of Menasha; Roger Loret of Florida; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Carl Christensen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Amil and Alice Dahl; grandchild, Jaycee Hlavacek; sister-in-law Barb Loret; brother-in-law Amil Dahl; and Elmer and Diane Dahl.
A memorial service for Jim will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home, followed by military honors. A visitation will be held from 4:30 P.M. until the hour of service.
The family wishes to express their heart felt appreciation to the respite staff at Cherry Meadows and ThedaCare hospice staff, especially Briana and Claudia.
