Obituary
Matthew (Matt) Scher, 36, left us way too soon on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. He was born on June 5th, 1985 on Long Island, NY, the son of Debbie Kirkland and Mitch Scher. Matt's biggest passions in life were sports, food, and family vacations. He was an avid sports fan who loved cheering for his favorite teams, the Mets, Jets, and Islanders. Immediately following a game Matt enjoyed sharing his many opinions on WFAN sports radio and Twitter. As the foodie of the family Matt came up with their favorite delicacy, ‘Thanksgiving bagels'. One of his favorite places to visit was Sauce, a pizzeria in New York City. Matt lived life to the fullest.
He treasured time spent with his family, especially traveling back to New York City to be with his sister Heather and Brad. He had a true appreciation for the finer things in life, yet also had a way of making simple things and gatherings extraordinary. Matt had a quick wit, an excellent sense of humor, and was a joy to be around. He was a very kind person who loved animals and children. Matt was a soft, warm, loving person who will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Matt was proud of the development of his professional life and was excelling within a new role in IT sales where his magnetic personality and commitment to his team shone through.
Matt is survived by his mother Debbie Kirkland (Rick Zeumer), father Mitch Scher (Lisa Wang), sister Heather Scher (Brad Giardino), and step-sister Emma Scher; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Dean and Dorothy Kirkland and paternal grandparents Marvin and Rita Scher.
Memorial service for Matt will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Westgor Funeral Home at 205 W. Doty Avenue in Neenah, WI. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:30 am until the time of the service.
We will honor Matt's spirit and legacy with the establishment of a foundation that is dedicated to supporting causes that he would be proud of. Its mission is to help those in need with support and guidance in defining and achieving their goals in life. It will encourage healthy lifestyle, collaborative recovery and betterment.
