HENRY MAI

Obituary

Henry Mai, born December 16, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, and died May 18, 2022, at 74 years of age.  He died of Covid-19 related illness at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah.  He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Lynda Mai, and his 8 children ,10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Henry graduated from Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado with a Bachelor of Science.

Henry was an avid music, film and sports enthusiast.  After beginning his career in communications as a Radio Disc Jockey on KNNG in Sterling, Colorado he pursued his professional path as a Sales Representative for industrial supplier companies in Wisconsin. This in turn allowed him to extensively travel throughout the Midwest and discover some of the best local restaurants and diners along the way.

He was a weather hobbyist and tracked temperature, barometer, and weather data for over 50 years. He consequently shared his resources and actively participated in Meteorologist data networks. His passion has been passed down to his children who also share his many diverse interests.

As a father of 7, he closely followed the updates of his children's and grandchildren's visits, celebrations and daily life events.  He appreciated a quiet family life and always looked forward to returning home after a week of traveling to sit down to a home-cooked family meal. He had a sharp sense of humor through his keen observation and spread this to others. He was easy going and loved establishing a daily pattern, creating a peaceful presence.

An active member of his community, he enthusiastically followed his children's extra circular activities and swam religiously at the YMCA in Neenah.  He volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.  He prayed for safety and kindness to all.  His fellowship at the “Men's Group” was enjoyed over the last few years during his retirement.  Hank fell in love with Lynda during his college years, and together they shared their deep values of family and religion.

He will be greatly missed by his spouse, children, grandchildren. Moreover, he will be fondly remembered as a man of honor and a loving husband. He will continue to be cherished by his loved ones and wife of 54 years.  His loyal companionship will be forever missed.

Survived by his wife, Lynda Sue Mai; Children: Cheryl (Mark) Hanson, Ben (Tara) {Fayth (Ryan {Sybil, Remy}) Freeberg, Dawson (Morgan {Indiana}) Mai, Ethan, Grayce, Owen} Mai, Andrew (Laura Winstanley) {Alexander, Gabriel, Lane}) Mai, Alisa (Jean-Marc) {Alexandre, Jonah} Viguier, Spencer Mai, Rachel (Grant Temple) McDonald, William (Robyn Ehrlich) Mai.

Preceded in Death by: a daughter, Allison Mai, parents, Angela and Herman Mai; two brothers: Thomas Mai, Charles Mai; and a sister, Barbara Myers (Mai).

The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second St., Menasha, with Fr. Michael Lightner officiating.  The visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.  Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Neenah. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
