Obituary

James, Brandon

Brandon Paul James, 37, passed on peacefully from complications of AUD, on Friday July 8, 2022, in Neenah, WI. He was born on April 18, 1985, in Green Bay, WI, son of Barry James and Cheryl (Olig) James.

Brandon lived a full life during his short time on Earth. A graduate of Neenah High School, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and had a career as an Energy Engineer managing building automation systems for the many UMN Twin Cities campus buildings. He achieved his Professional Engineering license and was very active in local and state ASHRAE chapters, a HVAC professional association.

Always the adventurer, he loved volunteering at local food pantries and co-op's, portaging the Boundary Waters of MN and skiing in the western mountains. He knew love and those who knew him loved him deeply. Famously known for his bear hugs, he always brought a special charisma to anyone whose path he crossed. While he loved Wisconsin and Minnesota sports teams, Brandon's passion was music and he brought joy to the world performing around the country with friends and his band, the Absolute Grüv. His loss is a tragedy for all of us he leaves behind, but we will all remember how he touched our lives. We love you B!

Brandon is survived by his parents; Cheryl James and Barry James (Mary Beth); two brothers: David (Sarah) and Jacob (Natalie); nieces: Jenica Belle, and Remi; step-grandmother Shirley Ponschok; stepbrother Joshua Buss (Ruth), and step niece Evelyn Kate. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Robert and Pauline James & Robert and Jeanette Olig: Uncle Grahame James; and step-grandfather, Fred Ponschok.

A celebration for Brandon will be held August 5, at Bubolz Nature Preserve, 4815 N. Lyndale Dr, Appleton, WI  54913, beginning at 11am with a memorial service to follow at 1pm. The family welcomes donations in his honor to Catalpa Health, Appleton, WI, in lieu of flowers.

I am the guitar player in the band God Johnson and The Big Wu. Absolut Gruv and our band "God Johnson" played a number of shows and festivals together. We all interacted often. We both had mutual respect for each other. Brandon was an exceptional bass player and singer. He had the personality of bright beautiful person who knew who he was and it really seemed to everyone that it was really fun being Brandon. He was so funny. I remember cracking up to his antics. He was a good man. I will miss him so much. I keep getting older and more of my musical buddies seem to go. But I treasure them and their memories until my turn. Love you Brandon. Sail on sailor.

You embodied more life and love than anyone I’ve ever met. Living in a world without you in it is going to continue to break my heart until I leave this earth. I know our souls were supposed to cross paths in life and this hole in my heart will never go away. I hope you can feel how loved and missed you are. I love you forever B.

I know how difficult it is to lose a child but remember him in your heart and know that he is no longer fighting his demons. My sympathy. Cookie Holman

What a joy! It was always a pleasure to know we were going to see Brandon. His presence brought laughter. His huge hugs brought family togetherness. Our hearts ache that there won’t be any more hugs like that. But a persons hugs last a lot longer than after he’s done. We share sadness with family and friends now, but going forward will always remember him by his character; friendly, kind, gentle, loving, good and filled with love.
