Obituary
Lorna Leu Davel, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 22, 2022. She was born on December 23, 1932, in Marshfield, WI to the late Earl and Kathryn (Campbell) Leu. She met her husband, James, through an introduction by a mutual friend. They were married in Marshfield, WI on August 7, 1954. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Lorna attended St. Catherine College in St. Paul, MN, graduating in 1954 with a degree in sociology. She spent her career working as the director of youth activities at the YWCA in Neenah, WI, as a realtor for Acre Realty in Menasha and for many years as the director of Catholic education with St. John's and St. Bernadette's Catholic Churches. She was an avid reader and belonged to the Yesterday, Today and Forever Book Club for over 20 years. For many years she donated her time as a hospice volunteer. Her other passions included traveling, sewing, knitting, visiting with her dear friends, playing bridge, and of course spending summers in Door County with James, her children, and grandchildren.
Lorna is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, James; their five children: Victoria Davel (Jeff Franke), Steven Davel (Bonnie), Cynthia Hockenberry (James), Mary Glisczinski (Jeff) and Michael Davel (Mary). She is further survived by her 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, who all lovingly call her “Busha”. Lorna was preceded in death by her siblings: Robert Leu, James Leu, Luella Leu and John Leu; and one grandchild, Charles Davel.
Mass of Christian burial for Lorna will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. Tom Reynebeau officiating. Visitation will take place at the church, Tuesday morning beginning at 9:30 AM until the 10:30 AM Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
Lorna's family would like to extend a special thank you to her nurse Jeannie, the team of hospice nurses from ThedaCare at Home, caregivers, and the staff at Island Shores in Neenah for the excellent care they provided to our mother.
