BETTY EMMRICH

November 24, 1931 - September 02, 2022

Obituary

Betty Ann Emmrich, age 90, passed away on September 2, 2022 at Evergreen Assisted Living of the complications of Parkinson's disease. She was born on November 24, 1931 to Emma and William Schmidt.

Betty graduated from Oshkosh High School and Oshkosh Business College. She married Nile Emmrich on October 2, 1954. Betty and Nile loved to travel and they took many wonderful trips together. Betty was a stay-at-home Mom, raising four children. She returned to the workplace only after the children were grown. Betty worked at many part time jobs, ending her career as a secretary in the library at Appleton West High School, retiring in 1986. She loved to volunteer, serving on Our Savior's Alter Guild, The Red Cross Blood Bank, Reach to Recovery of the American Cancer Society, and Meals on Wheels. Betty loved to dance and tap danced with Pastor Ruge's Rhythmettes for 30 years, dancing at nursing homes, churches, etc.

Betty loved to play games of all kinds, especially cribbage. She had a strong faith in God and felt that this helped her through the tough times in her life. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, and although they lived far away, she never missed an opportunity to visit them.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Nile, her parents and sisters-in-law, Edith Emmrich and Carolyn Fenske. She is survived by her four children, Vicki (Roger) Brower, Knoxville, TN, Steven (Gaydene) Emmrich, Yorba Linda, CA, Terry (Karen) Emmrich, Madison, WI, and Tom (Dawn) Emmrich, Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren, Ryan (Ryan) Brower, Krista (Will) Draney, Matthew (Natasha) Emmrich, Karri (Curtis) Eakin, Alyssa Emmrich, Carly (Brandon) Darr, Jack (Sarah) Emmrich, Bill (Caitlin) Emmrich, and Tyler Walker; and six great-grandchildren, Brayden and Madisen Emmrich, Liam and Emerson Draney, and Quinn and Parker Darr.

Betty: A special thank you to my friend Michael. My family had already left the area and Michael became my substitute family and made life worth living again. And thank you to Terry and Karen who gave so freely of their time to help me.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Evergreen Assisted Living and the staff at Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care. Their kindness and attention provided our Mother with happiness and comfort in the later years of her life.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Assisted Living, 1130 N. Westfield St., Oshkosh, on September 15, 2022. Visitation will be at Evergreen from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Please direct memorials to Our Savior's Lutheran Church (Neenah), Parkinson Research or the Wisconsin Parkinson Association, or the charity of your choice.

I have so many fond memories of Betty Ann. She and her husband were always so kind to me. I loved to go to the parties that they would host at their home. Lucky for me, Betty Ann was also working at Appleton West when I was a student there, so I would be able to see her kindness there as well. May you all cherish the memories of your mom/grandma.

My condolences to Vicki, Steve, Tom and my dear friend Terry and their families. In addition to bringing my best friend into the world, Betty was among the community mothers who shaped my own childhood. She was always there with a welcoming smile and a warm and familiar greeting-- "Well, hello Zern," when she should have been asking "Why are you always at my house and when are you going to leave?!" May Betty rest in well deserved peace.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Betty.  I have fond memories of Betty & Nile through their friendship with my father and our association through Rotary.  Two incredibly kind souls.
