Obituary
Dorothy Thompson, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the age of 86. She died peacefully with her loving husband Bill by her side. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Dorothy moved to Appleton to attend Lawrence University where she met William Thompson, her husband of sixty-five years. Dorothy graduated with a degree in Medieval English Literature and carried on her love of learning as an avid reader of fiction and three newspapers daily! Combining her love of art and travel, Dorothy hosted many trips across the United States with the Bergstrom Art Museum, and traveled the world with Bill. She especially loved her annual trips to California wine country to indulge her love of great food and wine. On the home front, Dorothy was a splendid hostess and cook – providing friends and family with memorable evenings in her dining room and oh those Christmas parties!
Bill was Dorothy's true love and the wonder of their love endured the test of time. Dorothy was mom to three daughters and the loving Grandma Doe to her four grandchildren. A loyal friend to so many, Dorothy nurtured deep friendships with love and care that lasted decades. With amazing strength and selflessness Dorothy conquered every challenge that came her way with never a complaint. She set an amazing example and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her husband William, her three children, Julie Heller, Lucy Thompson, Susan Thompson (Michael Foley), four grandchildren, Lelan Foley, Bennett Foley, Audry Heller, Austin Heller, nieces and nephews and many friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George (MerryBelle) Beltz.
A memorial service will be held for Dorothy on Friday, May 27th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Menasha. A visitation will precede the service starting at 9:30 a.m. with a reception afterwards.Memorials may be made to Lawrence University or St. Thomas Church in memory of Dorothy.
