Obituary

Larry Peterson, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in Neenah. He was born on January 15, 1948 to the late Arthur and Donna Peterson in Neenah. Larry married Sandy Hall on October 28, 1972, and she preceded him in death December 27, 1996. He graduated from Neenah High School in 1966 and later studied at the University of Rome, Italy in the summer of 1966. Later on that year, Larry began attending the Jefferson School of Commercial Art from 1966 to 1968. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972 and was stationed in Kentucky, Virginia, and Korea. He went on to work at Duane Boyd & Associates, Presto Products in Appleton, and Alcan from 1976 until he retired in 2009.

During Larry's life, one of his main passions was photography. He enjoyed taking pictures of bands who were friends of his, meeting entertainers while working backstage at The Door Community Auditorium, shooting images at events in Door County, like the Door County Renaissance Faire and Door County Maritime Museum. He was honored to have images published by The International Library of Photography, The Door County Advocate, The Door County Peninsula Pulse, and hardcover books “Capture Door County” and “Capture Wisconsin”. Larry also shot Images for the Open Road Harley  Davidson calendar in 2015 and was involved in the production of a film shoot in Door County called “Confessions of A Sailor” about the sinking of the freighter Carl D. Bradley in 1958.

He loved traveling to the Caribbean on cruises and vacations. He had been to Curacao, Bahamas, Cozumel, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman where he loved scuba diving and taking underwater pictures. Larry had also vacationed in Los Angeles and San Diego where he went to Super Bowl XXXII, when the Packers lost to the Denver Broncos. Larry also enjoyed visiting New York City when he was at Times Square for New Years Eve to ring in 2011. His travels also took him to Florida in Key West, Vero Beach, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Universal Studios in both Florida and California, along with Disneyland in California.  One of Larry's favorite experiences was taking a 1,000 foot dive in a two passenger and one pilot research submarine in Grand Cayman, swimming with dolphins, and feeding stingrays in Grand Cayman. He treasured all of his experiences and meeting many friends on his travels. He was even honored to meet the man who drove for General George Patton.

Larry also was very active locally in Neenah. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Boys Brigade. He looked forward to swimming at the YMCA in Neenah and being active with his friends and family.

Larry is survived by his brothers Tom (Audrey) Peterson and Kris (Deborah) Peterson; nieces Lisa Peterson, Rachel (JB) Engeler, and Angela (Jamie) Gordon; great-nieces and nephews Ariah, Tanner, James, Andrew, MacKenzee, and Gracee.
