Obituary

John P. Sokolowski, age 74 of Menasha, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was born in Neenah to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Sokolowski and was married to Susan Steinfort in 1968.

John was a proud veteran, having served first in the Marine Corps, but also in the Army Reserves during Desert Shield and the Cuban Conflict. He was an avid fan of Wisconsin sports and loved to fish and camp. John was a longtime, active member of St. Patrick's and in recent years he served as a crossing guard in Menasha school zones, which he considered his favorite job. He loved nothing more, however, than spending time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Susan; by his daughters: Laurie (Dave) Rataj; Sari (Dan) Kersten; and Kami Van Handel; by his grandchildren: David Sokolowski; Taylor (Angel) Tuchscherer; Hannah, Noah, and Josh Rataj; Jacob (Lauren) Quella; Teagan (Justin) Quella; and Christian (Abby) Van Handel. His further survived by his great-grandchildren: Riley, Xavier, and Brayden, and Cal; by his brother, George (Carol) Sokoloski; by his sisters-in-law: Peggy Langkau; Jan (Mike) Gustman; and Kris (Jeff) Roth; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother- and father-in-law, Carol and Tom Steinfort; by one brother, and by two sisters.

A memorial mass for John will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at St. Patrick Parish, 320 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha, with Fr. Judah Pigon officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

“We new Soko” our whole married life. Dale and sis Laurin (Sis Pedersen from dog town ). Have not seen Soko for years but when ever we ran in to Soko he always talked about all the fun things we did back in late 60s andbeyound. My memory are that of John making us laugh when ever we talked. I lost my  Sis in Nov of 2018.  I’m sure they are both sharing some good laughs now that they are in the same place. My thoughts and prayers are with all now and for many months to come. He sure brought a lot of joy to all those he had come in contact with that’s for sure. Soko was “AGOOD GUY”
