I want to pass along my condolences to Merritt's family, and also share one of my memories of Merritt from our Junior year in high school. He and I secretively collaborated that year to count every instance that Mr. Kenneth Anderson mentioned George Bernard Shaw during our English class. Since that total rose dramatically each day, it was a scramble for us to keep up. For one of us - perhaps both - that effort was the high point of the class. At the end of the school year, an anonymous article in the school newspaper revealed the colossal GBS total. Rest assured Merritt, my friend, I'll never tell who submitted that article.

I remember well going out to dinner with Merritt, Bob and Hope and Chuck and I. We’d always go to Simpsons in Waupaca. Good memories
