HEATHER SCHEFFLER

Heather Lee Scheffler, age 79 of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly March 30, 2023 in Leesburg, FL. She was born August 28, 1943, and was raised by Ernyl and Marian (Sabrowski) Westphal. She graduated from Menasha High School in 1961. Heather married her High School sweetheart, John “Jack” Scheffler July 28, 1962, and they have been at each other's side ever since. Out of high school, she worked for Banta Publishing. Later, she became secretary for both Banta & Clovis Grove Elementary schools in Menasha.

Her favorite TV channels were the Hallmark Channel & nature themed programming. Christmas was her favorite holiday. Baking was her way of sharing love with others, through her indulgent treats, especially Christmas cookies and fudge. Going to see the “Nutcracker in the Castle” was a yearly experience. Reading books was part of her daily life, and it was nothing for her to finish a novel in a day. Hummingbirds were her favorite bird, as well as Orchids her favorite flower.  

Heather loved spending time at their cottage up north with Jack, tending to her gardens, and leisure rides on the pontoon boat. She also loved to travel to places like Japan, Hawaii, taking cruises, and wintering in Florida, while spending time with her snowbird friends. She enjoyed music festivals, theatrical performances, Harley Davidson rides with Jodi Lee, Renaissance Fair and Door County trips with Jon, fish fries at the Kilsdonk's and watching Jeff race boats.

She touched the hearts of so many families and friends with her compassionate heart and gentle guidance. Charities were important to her, including sponsoring a child internationally as just one example.

Heather is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jack; her children: Jeffrey (Amy) Scheffler, Jonathan Scheffler, and Jodi Lee Scheffler; her grandchildren: Emily (Scott) Elmer, Jace (Mary) Scheffler, Forrest Scheffler, Karley (Austin) Hopfensperger, Camie Kilsdonk, and Hannah Kilsdonk. She is further survived by her seven great-grandchildren and another one on the way; by her brother, Paul Westphal; by her cousins, and by her sisters- and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents: Marian and Ernyl Westphal; by her brother, David Westphal; and by her daughter-in-law, Sydne Scheffler.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace St., Combined Locks, with Fr. David Funk, Deacon Jeff Prickette and Deacon Dave Hayden officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of mass. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Menasha.
