EUGENE KOERNER

Eugene Paul Koerner, 73, passed away May 9, 2023, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, after a short illness. He was born in Neenah on August 5, 1949, son of the late Alphonse and Florence (Buss) Koerner.

After Eugene earned his GED, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1974. After his training, Eugene was deployed to South Vietnam where he worked as a Special Equipment Repairman from November 1970 – November 1971. When Eugene returned from Vietnam, he married Bonnie Rae Schuelke in November 1971 in Menasha. They moved to Fayetteville, NC; until 1974, when they moved back to Wisconsin, where Eugene continued to serve his country in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1974 – 1986, when he decided to retire. During his time serving in the National Guard, Eugene worked at Gilbert Paper Company until it closed in 2001.

Eugene loved camping, hunting, and many other outdoor activities. He was very mechanically inclined and could be found in his garage tinkering with cars and snowmobiles in his spare time. His greatest love came from time spent with his  family and friends.

Eugene is survived by his two children: Daughter, Julie (Chad) Lehmann, and their daughter, Mackenzie, Neenah; and son, Paul Koerner, and his children: Zach and Dakota, Neenah; and many nieces and nephews throughout the country. He was further preceded in  death by four brothers: Richard, Ronald, David, and Terry; and other extended family members.

Funeral service for Eugene will be 7:00 PM on Thursday May 18, 2023, at WESTGOR FUNERAL HOME, Neenah. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday beginning at 4:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service. Full military honors will follow. The burial will take place Friday morning at 11:00 AM, at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, King. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eugene's name are encouraged to the American Cancer Society, or Veterans Home in King.
