DONALD ALTHAUS

He was born on September 21, 1942, in Neenah, Wisconsin, to the late Carlton “Bud” Althaus, and Elizabeth “Betty” (Westphal) Althaus. He graduated high school from Neenah High School in 1960. Don married his high school sweetheart, Jane Loughrin, in 1965, and shared 39 years of marriage. Don and Jane moved to Elkhorn, Wisconsin, in 1977, and then retired to Sun City West, Arizona, in 2003. Jane preceded Don in death on July 1, 2004.

Don is survived by his brother, Larry (Maureen) Althaus of Neenah, daughter, Kim (Tom Quasius) Althaus of Plymouth, WI, and son, Steve Althaus of Fort Worth, TX, and his three granddaughters, Leah and Sarah Althaus, and Katie Quasius. He was so proud of his granddaughters and enjoyed talking to them daily. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Tim Gajewski, and Gene (Sherri) Loughrin.

Don always described himself as an athlete. He played basketball in high school, and then moved onto softball and bowling. He scored a perfect 300 game in bowling and then retired from the sport. After moving to Elkhorn, he and Jane took up cross country skiing, downhill skiing, and golf. And of course he took up pickleball when we moved to Arizona, and even played in the Senior Nationals! Eventually he had to give up these sports due to bad knees, so he started taking daily bike rides around his neighborhood. Over the past year, he's been content to sit in his driveway and greet the dogs of the neighborhood on their walks. He had multiple sizes of dog treats to satisfy all! Don loved to stay in touch with family and friends.

Don served in the Army Reserves. He worked for Banta Corporation in Neenah, and then Webb Press in Elkhorn. In his spare time, he built homes and helped others with their DIY projects. Don loved to stay in touch with family and friends, and many received daily calls from him.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for Saturday, October 7, 2023, at The Dome, 1338 S. Commerical St., Neenah, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.
