Obituary
John Henry Vohen, of Neenah, age 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born on April 19, 1935, in Humboldt, WI, son of the late John and Cecelia (Roidt) Vohen.
John served in the U.S Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Mary Lou Valentine on May 18, 1956, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
John started school in a one room schoolhouse and eventually attended high school in Denmark. He began his working career on Alden Lange's farm at the young age of 15. He held numerous jobs before working at Azco Inc. where he worked for more than 20 years before retiring at the age of 62. He was a proud member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 400.
Jon was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved building and fixing everything from fishing poles to lawnmowers and everything in between. He spent many wonderful summers at the family cottage on Kelly Lake. Most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved family and friends.
John was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah. He had a strong faith and was a dedicated member, volunteering in numerous ways during his time there.
He will be deeply missed by his surviving family members which include his wife, Mary Lou; son, Randy (Lisa) Vohen; 2 granddaughters: Tiffany (Bill) Vogels and Lindsay (Randy) Henderson; 5 great-grandchildren: Emily, Jack, Cecilia, Isabella and Gracie; 2 step-granddaughters: Mallory and Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cecelia Vohen; stepfather, Art Sinkula; his parents-in-law, Ruben and Johanna Valentine; his brothers: Eugene Vohen and Maynard Vohen; and grandson, Jacob Vohen.
A funeral service for John will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 11:30am, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St., Neenah. A visitation will begin at 10:00am and continue until the time of service. Full Military Honors will follow with the Neenah Menasha Veterans Honor Guard. John will be interred at St. Margaret's Catholic Cemetery.
John's family extends their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Hospital in Neenah for their excellent care during his final days.
