Obituary

Barbara D. Kozlowski, age 79 of Menasha, passed away suddenly on October 3, 2023. She was born February 24, 1944 to the late Heinz and Carolyne Sopel in Milwaukee. On January 30, 1967, she married Allen Kozlowski.

Barb worked many jobs in her life including that of teacher, realtor, homemaker, and bus driver. She was a member of St. Joe's Catholic Church in Appleton and will be remembered for her heart of gold. She was a loving, devoted, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who had a sassy sense of humor and loved spending time with her family. Barb enjoyed working on puzzles, listening to 1950's rock-n-roll, and reading Amish books. Her favorite days were Saturdays and she had a soft spot in her heart for Dachshunds.

Barb will be missed by her husband of 56 years, Allen; her children: Brenda Gorges; Robert (Julienne) Butelefski; Connie Niemuth; and Debra (Todd) Lemmens; grandchildren: Miranda and Adam, and their father, Mike Gorges; Ben (Ellen) and Bryan (Becky); Jordan, Rhiannon, and Emerson; Brad (Becky), Amanda (Riley), and Michael (Emily); and great-grandchildren: Vada; Bensen and Lyla; Calvin; and Finn. She is further survived by her brother, Jon Sopel, Sr.; sister, Lorelie (Jim) Sopel; and brother-in-law, Wayne (Deidre) Kozlowski; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Griffin Niemuth; Allen's parents, Ann and Bernard Kozlowski; in-laws, Judy, Ken, and Lana; and by her infant brother, Phillip.

A memorial service for Barb will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Barb will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Neenah.

Barb we will miss you so much! Your way of letting us know you had so much spunk! Fridays will not be the same at dinnertime! So very Glas we got to know you & love you! Peace now, no pain! Barbara and I knew each since 4th grade. We lived a block from each other and We both attended 18th School on 18th and Wells St. In Milwaukee.  We had many great times together growing Up.  One thing I learned from Dear Barbara is to keep up your relationships with your friends. She never missed a card on my birthday Or a card on Christmas and called periodically.  We just got together three weeks Ago at a church in Oshkosh.  We should all treat our friends and family like it’s the last time we will see them again.  In this case three weeks ago, it was. We had hugged each other goodbye.🥲

Even though we moved away from the Midwest 50 years ago, cousin Barb has always been in contact through Christmas cards and in recent times, social media. I have great memories of our families growing up together in Milwaukee and West Allis, but we shared the urge to go elsewhere; us to Wilmington, Delaware and many DuPont transfers and Barb and family across Wisconsin and Florida, but never did we meet. Opportunities lost. Obviously Barb and family grew and prospered and she will be missed. Our sympathies and support to all who will go forward with positive memories.

Barb would call me every day at 9:15 A.M. She rarely missed a day. If she did, she always let me know that she had an appointment, or something was going on at that time. We would try and solve the world's problems, plus a few of our own. Oh, how I miss those calls! Barb and I met driving school bus. She came into my bus on a very hot day and wondered why I didn't have my long hair tied back or tied up. That was Barb, she always told you what she thought, she had her opinion. She was such a kind, loving lady, she would do anything for anyone. I'm sure going to miss you precious friend! One day we'll meet in heaven again! I love you!

my mom Adele( Sonnheim) Kramer came from Romania to Milwaukee in as a refugee from world war 2 in 1951 when she was 10 years old .She soon met Barbara and her parents. my mom adele enjoied speaking to Barbs dad in German . Barbra enjoied going to state fair, the movies, and also to the downtown library with my mom and her other friend Gloria.One time at the library they were laughing so hard that the librarian came over by them,and said "who is the troublemaker?" Barb kept a straight face and said "not us". Over the years my parents Danny and Adele kept in contact with Barb and Al. on our way to our housetrailer in antigo wi our whole family often would stop at their house in appleton to eat lunch.I remember one time barbs son was only home,so he invited us inside to watch "my 3 sons on tv"while we waited for his parents to return.Another fun memory is when we we went to their daughters wedding in appleton circa 1983 ..In the 90s they send us postacrds from florida. In 2010 Barb and Al met up with my brother eric and my parents and the "old country buffet" during a lamers motorcoach tour . Recently Barb visited our house in West Allis to see our garden..... This year many phone calls, letters and bithday cards too... from our wonderful friend barb
