ETTA SCHUMACHER

January 21, 1923 - November 08, 2023

Obituary

Etta Mae Schumacher, age 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at home.  She was born on January 21, 1923, in Stockbridge, WI, daughter of the late Clayton and Rose (Meier) Head.

On May 7, 1949, she married the love of her life, Alvin Schumacher.  The couple lived in Neenah, where they raised their family.

Etta attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School followed by Stockbridge High School. After high school, she attended Fond du Lac Commercial College where she earned a degree in business. She worked at Marathon until the birth of her first child, after which time she decided to stay home to raise her family.

Etta enjoyed gardening, dancing, and singing.  As her family grew, she enjoyed attending all of her children's, and later grandchildren's and, even later, great grandchildren's sporting events and activities.  An avid sports fan, she lived to cheer on the Brewers and Badger basketball team.

Etta was very involved in her church and community. She first volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader, where she organized many fun activities including organizing a trip to Washington, D.C. Then she advanced to troop coordinator and Cookie Chairman for the City of Neenah.

Etta was a Charter member of St. Gabriel Parish where she counted money for many years, headed games for the annual round up, helped with the rummage sales, and coordinated funeral dinners.

Etta is survived by her children Susan Schmitz (Joseph) and Jane Robillard (Daniel); her five grandchildren Meghann, Katie (Mason Sims), and Jes Schmitz, Becky (Rich Harding) and Ryan (Amanda) Robillard; great grandchildren: Jaxon, Porter, Grayson, Easton, Carly, Gus, and Finley and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 2015, her brother Kenneth and his wife Esther Head; her sister Myrtle and her husband Stretch Ortlieb; and infant daughter Jane Ellen.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compasses Hospice for all the wonderful care and support given to Etta and her loved ones.

A Funeral Service will be held for Etta at 11:00 on Saturday, November 18 at St. Gabriel Parish, 900 Geiger St. in Neenah, with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating.  Friends may call at the church from 9:30 until the time of service.  Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Stockbridge. In lieu flowers please contribute donations to: SmileTrain.org

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Etta. Death of a loved one is never easy but to know she lived a full life with such a loving family and so many friends over the years is comforting. This Bible verse recorded in John 5:28  has been of comfort to our family when experiencing a loss. It reads “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus Christ) voice and come out.” May the God of all comfort give strength and his love to each of you.
