Obituary
Michael Robert Murphy “Mikey”, age 19, of Menasha, WI passed away on December 26, 2023. He was a passionate lover of family, friends, and music.
Ever since a young age Mikey would bang on any free surface so that he could drum new rhythms. If not banging on things, he would be singing or pretending to be playing guitar. He lived with his ear buds in, constant music playing listening to a rotation of classic, new rock, rap, and everything in between. He enjoyed going to concerts and watching his uncle Nick play in his bands. He dreamed of becoming a music producer to have a career doing what he loved. Mikey also played saxophone in the Menasha High School Band, Class of 2022, where he made many friends.
Mikey was incredibly friendly, welcoming anyone he met. He spent most of his time with “The Boys” including Jackson, Hunter, and Jorge. Just last year, the four of them took a trip to Arizona together and they all got to see the Grand Canyon. In addition to his friends, Mike valued spending time with his family. He would travel home from Sheboygan at any chance to see them. Whether he was home or in Sheboygan he would spend time playing video games with his brothers. He also loved to go bowling with his Grandpa Rat. Mike was on the bowling team at Menasha High School and worked at Sabre Lanes for a time.
He also loved watching and following football, his favorite team was the Packers. If he had the chance, he would always choose to watch games with family and friends over being alone.
Michael was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Eva and Richard Martell, Rosie and Bob Murphy, and Ben Soumi, great uncles Brian Suomi and Jim Murphy, and his great aunt Christine Martell.
Michael is survived by his mother and father Sheila and Adam Hassell, his brothers Jacob Hassell and Edwin Pozorski, grandparents Tim and Kathy Murphy, Scott and Bonnie Maki, and Gale and Barb Hassell, great-grandmother Arlene Suomi, uncles and aunts Derek (Amelia) Murphy and Nick Murphy (with partner, Catherine) Jennifer (Daniel) Krook, Daniel Hassell, Heather Hassell, Sarah (Jesse) Voight, RoseAnn (Josh) Howell. Also cousins Taryn and Teagan Baldini, Owen Murphy, and soon to be Murphy twins, as well as countless more family members.
A memorial service will be held on January 6, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Westgor Funeral Home, 1140 Appleton Road, Menasha, WI. A visitation will be held from 1 pm until the hour of the service. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed on Westgor's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Menasha High School Music Department.
