Obituary
Alan Lee Schultz, age 77, of Grand Chute, formerly a resident of Neenah and Oshkosh, passed away on June 25, 2024, after a battle with cancer.
Alan was born on November 25, 1946. He graduated from Neenah High School in 1965, attended UWO, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and always looked forward to holidays and events with relatives and friends, especially during the Fourth of July and deer-hunting season.
Alan was blessed with musical talent. He played guitar and banjo and had a beautiful singing voice, which he shared as a member of several bands and singing groups throughout his life. In later years, he provided entertainment at many senior living facilities and private parties. Alan had a knack for connecting with people and often struck up conversations with complete strangers, making many new friends. He was thoughtful and kind to others.
From his first job at 16 in a fast-food restaurant, Alan's career was diverse and industrious. He served in the Navy, worked as a door-to-door salesman during college, and held positions as a mill worker and a sales service representative at Menasha Corporation. Additionally, Alan built a unique log home near Borth, WI from scratch, using a chainsaw. He spent 27 years working for Oshkosh Truck Corporation, which took him around the world. He loved to share his numerous travel stories with acquaintances. After retiring, Alan worked as a Realtor with Re/Max for several years. He was an active member of The Neenah Club, the American Legion, and frequently attended Vets & Friends events. Alan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his children, their spouses, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends.
Alan is survived by two daughters, April (Brad) Cmejla of Sherwood, and Laura (Brodie) Marthaler of Eau Claire; and five grandchildren: Marty, Valerie, and Taylor Cmejla, and Scarlett and Freddie Marthaler. He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Faye Schultz, and his brother Roger Schultz.
April and Laura would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the staff at the Appleton VA Clinic, ThedaCare Cancer Center, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton, and Cherry Meadows Hospice. Your kindness and care will not be forgotten.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Church St., Neenah, WI. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
