SUE SCHULZ

Sue L. Schulz, age 91, Neenah Wisconsin, passed away on July 4, 2024.  She was a resident at Valley VNA for the past three years suffering from Lewy Body dementia.  

Sue was born August 10, 1932, to Gilbert and Bernice (Erdman) Schreiber in Wausau, Wisconsin.  She grew up in Wausau and graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1950.  She married Roy Schulz of Wausau on September 5,1953.  Their marriage lasted over 70 years.

Sue's life was all about her family, from supporting Roy during career relocations, to cheering for her children at events and offering a helping hand when challenges arose.  She established close relationships with her grandchildren and later in life her great grandchildren.  After cooking a big meal, she organized family games for all, teaching the grandchildren card and board games.  The family favorite was triple solitaire, which were very spirited affairs, and she provided the $1.00 prize to the winner.  Later in life she taught her adult grandchildren how to play the penny slots – and even though there were few winners, it was always a bonding time.  

Sue was a creative person and occasionally displayed her artistic talents.  She had a sharp wit, and could fill the room with her presence, while making some quick comments to put people at ease.  She had particular tastes, from house and home design to color schemes and was very involved in all decisions and details.  She was a Badger and Packer sports fan, and an ardent Brewer fan, and felt she was more qualified than the Brewers' manager after every loss.

But most important Sue was a Christian.  She was a quiet believer, who would share a Bible passage or a thoughtful comment or prayer with her family members when the situation arose.  She was active in her church, holding the office of Ladies Aid President at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids for a long time and was always there to help when needed.

Besides her husband Roy, Sue is survived by one daughter, Lori Barrett (Robert) of Fishers IN; and one son, Paul (Mary) Schulz of Neenah WI. There are four grandchildren: Patrick Barrett of Avon, IN, Shawn (Caitlin) Barrett of Dublin OH, Kevin (Felicia) Barrett of West Lafayette, IN, and Elizabeth Sue Kilby (Kevin) of Brookfield, WI.  In addition there are three great grandsons: August and Finn Barrett, and Owen Kilby.  She is also survived by her sister, Lynn (Gilbert) Gerdman of Baraboo, WI; and numerous loving and supportive nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jane, and her sister Kay (Jim) Guckenberg.

A private service will be held for the immediate family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Westgor Funeral Home, 205 W. Doty Avenue, Neenah, WI 54956 in care of Sue Schulz.  A specific memorial will be established at a later date.
