Obituary

George Wenzel, age 94, of Menasha entered eternal life on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. He was born on January 29, 1921 in Lanark, Wisconsin, son of the late Arthur and Emma (Boelter) Wenzel. George was a sheet metal worker employed by August Winter and Sons until his retirement in August of 1984. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years during WWII, both stateside and overseas. He married Helen Dorzweiler on May 25, 1946. Their marriage was blessed with two children and just shy of 62 wonderful years before Helen preceded him in death on May 18, 2008. They loved spending the winters in Florida and the summers camping at Guth's Resort on the Wolf River. He was a member of the VFW and Local 18 Sheet Metal Workers Union retirees. George is survived by his grandchildren: Kurt (Kim) Cox, Kristina Hall, Angie (Brody) Richter, Laura (Ben) Vowerk; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Chris Wenzel; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, George was preceded in death by his daughter, Roseanne Thompson; a son, Alan Wenzel; brothers: Raymond, Elmer, Otto, and Carl; sisters: Loretta Kiekaefer, Frances Snyder, Alma Michaelsen, and Hulda Lindquist. The Christian Funeral Service for George will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church (829 Appleton Road, Menasha) with Rev. Samuel Degner and Rev. David Wenzel officiating. Friends will be received directly at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Full Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army and the Neenah/Menasha Veterans Honor Guard at the church immediately after the funeral service. George will be laid to rest alongside his wife at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Donations in George's name may be given to Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church.
