Obituary
George Wesley Van Amber, III, Age 78, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at his home.
George (Van) was born on February 19, 1946 in Benson, Minnesota to George W. and Rita M. (Cichy) Van Amber. The family later moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin where Van graduated high school. He later went on to get an Associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. In later years he spent much of his time crafting with leather. He is survived by his loving family: his sisters, Judy Collins (Larry), Janet Paske (Rich), and Joyce Stanley (Pat); eight nephews, one niece, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his nephew, John Paske.
Throughout his life, Van was known for his kindness and compassion for others. For many years he contributed to food pantries and children's charities throughout Wisconsin. He also had a heart for Wounded Warriors and contributed to their cause. Van loved his sisters. He was a gentle, loving brother. And he cared about and was always interested in any news of his many cousins. He looked forward to the times when they all got together.
Van enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965. His service ended early when in training he suffered a complete hearing loss. Van's disability didn't prevent him from enjoying life. He loved to travel and occasionally recalled the great time he had when visiting China with his cousin, Greg. Van was proud of his German heritage. He was an avid reader of German history and enjoyed collecting German artifacts.
A gravesite memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota in the spring at a time and date to be later announced. Memorials in honor of Van can be made to any of the Wisconsin food banks, St. Judes Hospital, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Van will be greatly missed by his sisters.
