AUDREY GLATZ

Audrey Marie Glatz, nee Deimer, passed peacefully into Heaven, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 6, 2024. Audrey was born on July 22, 1936, in Appleton, WI to Joseph and Marie Deimer, nee Roehl. 

Audrey grew up on her family farm in Hortonville, WI, and graduated from Hortonville High School. She married Melvin Glatz on May 12, 1956, at St. Mary's, Greenville. They shared 51 years of marriage until his death in 2007. They resided in Neenah and lovingly raised three daughters together – Bonnie, Debra, and Jean. Beginning in 1999, Audrey and Melvin resided in Fremont on the Wolf River.

With a never-ending work ethic, Audrey worked for 35 years at Kimberly-Clark retiring in 1996. Beginning in 1975, Audrey and Mel owned and operated the Butterfly Bar in Neenah for 22 years. Audrey was a dedicated parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church for over 60 years and enjoyed singing in the church choir for over 40 years. She loved to knit, crochet, sew and created hundreds of sweaters, socks, afghans, hats, mittens and dish clothes for her family.  She enjoyed gardening with a green thumb and a little bit of Miracle Grow! Huge pots of her favorite pink petunias could always be found in her front yard. She was an avid Packer Fan and looked forward to game day each week. Audrey was tech savvy with her laptop, enjoyed her Smart phone, playing games, FaceBook, texting, and staying in touch with family on her Portal. In retirement, Audrey enjoyed traveling with family for vacations, weddings and outings. She loved boating on the Wolf River with family and friends enjoying many beautiful sunsets.

Always civic and social minded, Audrey regularly volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul, was a member of the Winchester/Larsen Lioness Club, The Red Hat Society, The Riverview Ladies Lunch Club, and loved singing in the St. Margaret Mary's church choir. Audrey was a dedicated wife and daughter, a shining example to her family as she unselfishly and lovingly cared for her husband and mother in the last years of their lives.

As a dedicated and devoted Mother, Audrey was a trailblazer in the sixties, bucking the cultural pressure to stay home solely focused on domestic challenges. Instead, Audrey worked at her career while successfully challenging her children to take responsibility, work hard, be accountable and ensured that she passed on her Catholic faith.  She did so in a manner that provided the most nurturing, willful, loving, and positive experience a child could ever experience. Audrey will be immensely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Audrey is survived by her daughters Bonnie Houlihan (Mike) of Cedarburg, WI; Debra Cleare of McKinney, TX; and Jean Hornes (Blaine) of Winneconne, WI, her sister Karen Gauthier, brother Gary Deimer (Bev), and 7 grandchildren: Meghan Houlihan Scheid (John), Joseph Houlihan (Nikki), Kelly Houlihan, Reilly Cleare, Cayla Cleare, Erin Tousley (Chad), and Blaine Hornes II (Kim). Her 10 great grandchildren were blessed to love and know her as "GiGi".

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Glatz, her parents Joseph and Marie Deimer, and nephew Gregg Deimer.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St, Neenah, with Fr. Nonito Barra officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 am until the Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenville, WI.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established for Breakthrough T1D (Juvenile Diabetes Research).
