Obituary
Janice Jacqueline Mayer (nee Wingrove) passed away peacefully on 01/07/2025, 5 days shy of her 92nd birthday, with her family by her side.
She was born on 01/12/1933 in Menasha, WI, to the late George & Gertrude Wingrove and was the oldest of 4 children.
Janice attended St John's Catholic School and graduated from Menasha High School, class of 1951.
She moved to Washington D.C. that same year, where she worked for the FBI's 10 most Wanted & the division for counterfeit money. During that same time she studied creative writing and journalism at Georgetown University.
She moved back to Wisconsin in 1955 and began working at The First National Bank in Menasha.
She met the love of her life, William Mayer in 1956 and they married the following year on October 19th, 1957 at St John's Catholic Church, Menasha. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together.
She was a stay at home mother to five children, until Bill started his own insurance agency in 1976, William Mayer & Associates. Janice worked at the agency for the next 30 years, retiring in 2006.
Janice was a member of the Board of Directors for the Menasha Public Library for 6 years and the Winnefox Library system for 3 years. She was also a member of the Menasha Action Committee.
Janice loved to read, do crossword puzzles, shop, entertain and travel. Janice so enjoyed having everyone over for cookouts on the weekends & every holiday. Her house was indeed her castle.
Her grandchildren & great grandchildren were an absolute joy in her life. She LOVED having them for sleepovers & attending all their events.
Janice is survived by her sons: Tim, Tracy (Barb), Eric (Adina); daughters: Molly and Ann; grandchildren: Brandon Dutton, Allison Kellett (Chris), Erik Becker (Allison), Emily Rieth (Josh), Alec Becker (Paige), William Zuleger, Carissa Holewinski, Anaisa Nagy, Hayden Nagy (Madison) & 8 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband William, parents George and Gertrude Wingrove, brother James Wingrove, sisters Jeri & Roger Schwenke, Gloria & Richard VanBeek and son-in law Brian Becker.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeshore Manor Assisted living in Oshkosh for their kindness & quality care that they provided over the last 6 weeks.
We'd also like to acknowledge the outstanding services provided by St. Croix Hospice. Their compassion & remarkable daily care of our mother over the last few weeks was phenomenal.
A funeral mass for Janice will be held Wednesday, January 15th, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton, with Fr. Bill Swichtenberg officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00am until the time of service.
