Obituary

Bette Craanen was born on September 29, 1954 in Neenah, Wisconsin to Art and Millie Brecklin. She passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025 after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bette graduated from Winneconne High School in 1972. She followed that with college at UW-Oshkosh, culminating with a master's degree. Bette worked for various Fox Valley companies in Human Resource positions, one as an HR director. She retired in her final position with the State of Wisconsin, Unemployment Division.

This precious gift loved watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, gardening, feeding birds (actually the squirrels), tearing pull tabs with friends, playing piano, solving crossword puzzles (with help – no shame); and baking cookies for hubby and son. She loved traveling the U.S. and being outdoors. She just loved living. So loved, Bette will be greatly missed by family and friends. A beloved wife, mentor, mother, sister, daughter, aunt…is gone to become an angel elsewhere.

Bette is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bob; their son, Derek; her stepson, Jason (Nicole); and granddaughter, Ivy; sisters: Barb (Doug) Mayer; Nancy (Mike) Kinney; and Katy (Steve) Plein; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In keeping with Bette's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life is being planned.

I am so very sorry and sad to hear of Bette’s passing. I loved working with her through the years before her retirement. She was always positive and cheerful, and just a joy to be around. My condolences to Bob, Derek, and the rest of her family. She will be missed.
