Obituary
Robert S. Winger, “Bob”, of Neenah, age 85, passed away unexpectedly while surrounded by his family, on Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born September 1, 1930 in the Township of Dunn, near Stoughton, son of the late Sydney and Alice (Nygaard) Winger.
Bob graduated from Edgerton High School and attended the University of Wisconsin. While studying in Madison, he was a member of the UW baseball program until drafted to serve in the US Army in 1952. In his 2 years of service during the Korean War, Bob was stationed in California where he continued playing in numerous baseball leagues.
Bob married Beverly Wuerch on August 30, 1958 in Manchester, WI. They made their home in Neenah, WI where they raised their son David and Bob began his 33 year career with Kimberly-Clark.
Bob had a passion and talent for baseball in his younger years. He also enjoyed time spent with his family at their cabin, hunting and golfing with the Winger men, and any opportunity to play the horses or watch a good horse race.
He was a 50 year member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Neenah.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; a son, David (Renee) Winger, Neenah; a granddaughter, Kirsten Winger (Jake Trundle), Oshkosh; a brother, Duane (Alice) Winger, Marquette, WI; a brother-in-law, Merrill (Audrey) Wuerch, Phoenix, AZ; a sister-in-law, Karren (Ken) Kimble, Markesan, WI, and his many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, April 1st. A memorial service for family and friends will begin at 1:00, all at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home. Internment will be held in the Manchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Neenah, WI.
