Obituary
Shirley Janet Wittman nee Jacob, 85, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend. Shirley peacefully passed at her home with her husband by her side in the early morning of January 6, 2021. She was born in Neenah, on March 20, 1935, daughter of the late Stephen and Dorothy (Maass) Jacob and grew up in Neenah with her four siblings. On September 17, 1955 Shirley married Ronald Wittman in Neenah. They made their home in Menasha, WI, where they later raised their daughters. This past September they celebrated 65 years of marriage with the family by hosting a combined outdoor/virtual, pandemic friendly, gathering.
Her husband and children describe Shirley as loving, sincere, witty, caring, helpful, and strong-willed. She will also be remembered for her sewing abilities, traveling with the motor home, canning, gardening, and laughs while playing cards and dominoes. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their home and cottage. Shirley will be remembered by her grandchildren as the one who always said yes, had chocolate blocks for making candy in the closet under the stairs (which the four grandchildren each took a corner to secretly nibble on), provided all the goodies for Easter egg hunts at the cottage, and could always be relied on for the best hugs.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Wittman; her two daughters: Cindy (Patrick) O'Connor, and Gwen (Wayne) Van Asten; four grandchildren: Beth (Bradley) Jones, Tracy Van Asten, Callum (Hannah) O'Connor, and Keira O'Connor; two great-grandchildren: Kallan Jones and Olivia O'Connor; and her siblings: Margaret (James) Behling and John Jacob. She was further preceded in death by her brother, Stephen T. Jacob, and her sister, Dorothy Krueger.
A private family Mass of Christian burial for Shirley will be held on Tuesday January 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Guests are invited to watch the Mass for Shirley, as it will be live streamed, beginning at 11:00 AM at Westgor Funeral Home Facebook home page: www.facebook.com/westgorfuneralhomes.
