EUGENE HERUBIN

March 31, 1934 - March 14, 2025

Obituary

Eugene Andrew Herubin went home to the Lord peacefully; reuniting with the love of his life Delores Ann on Friday, March 14, 2025. A father, teacher, mentor, and coach, he lived a life inspired by God's creation. Gene's foundation was built on faith, Polish/Lithuanian traditions, and family. He was a devout Catholic, active member of St. John the Baptist Church and a proud member of Knights of Columbus. He was surrounded by music which in turn developed into his life-long appreciation of music. His natural curiosity of nature and all living beings inspired his path to sharing his knowledge with his children and his students.

Gene's teaching career brought his growing family to Menasha where he joined the Menasha High's Blue Jays. His love for science was evident in his classrooms. His students succeeded as a result of his classroom management, high standards, inquiry science curriculum he developed, preparedness and sense of humor. His proudest teaching moments were contributing to the success of struggling students. Additionally, his love for coaching and mentoring students in the fields of football, girls track, and boxing continued throughout and after his 35 years of teaching in the Menasha School District.

Gene went on many adventures with his father and uncles in the north woods of Wisconsin and Minnesota. He learned hunting skills, gathering nature's bounty, fishing on lakes and rivers, tapping maple trees in the spring, and flower and vegetable gardening at the family home. These hobbies became a source of pride and joy for the entirety of his life. As a result, all his sons and daughters grew to love these activities as well.

Eugene took great pride in his progeny and their successes: Denise Reynolds of TN (Gregory), Jeanette Herubin of MN (Dean), Michael Herubin of TX (Peggy), Patrice Lindgren of WA (Jeff), and Robert Herubin of MN (Linda). Gene loved his grandchildren: Neil Reynolds, Rachael Carl, Christina Hernandez, Stephanie Malazzo, Danielle Herubin, John Herubin, Andrew Herubin, Anna Lindgren, Andrew Lindgren, Ian Herubin, Cassandra Herubin and Trenton Herubin. He never thought he would live to meet his great grandchildren: Romero, Sienna, Weston and Cecilia.

Please join the Herubin family in celebrating Gene's life Thursday, March 27th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Westgor Funeral Home – Menasha, for the wake. On Friday, March 28th, at 10:00 AM there will be a meet and greet prior to the 11:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, 516 DePere St. in Menasha. He will be placed to rest at St. Johns Cemetery beside his wife, Delores.

Your family has my sympathy for your loss. As a secretary at Menasha High School, I knew Gene as a respected teacher and staff member. I can still hear his voice because he often greeted me with joyful comments. His love for teaching and his students was always very evident. May your memories always comfort you.

Wow. What a run he had. Gene was one of the great ones. His positive impact on my life will be forever appreciated.  His advanced biology class at Menasha High was serious stuff, but his wit, charm and insightful teaching made it a joyful high point. Sympathy and condolences.

We are so sorry for your loss of a wonderful man.  I’ll always remember our stay at the Spurr’s home on Whidbey Island and he came with Patrice and Jeff. He looked like he was having a ball! He was smiling the whole time - taking a boat ride, eating fresh crab, sitting and chatting amongst the chaos of our boys and parents.  A truly nice person!

This world had lost a great man. Gene Herubin (my dad always called him Gene). A man strong in faith, family and FUN. When Patrice came to visit him in the summers, Eugene would join us. I learned a lot about him and all of the great things he experienced in his lifetime. What a joyful person to be around. He passed this onto his children whom I adore. Eugene and the entire Herubin family always made me feel like I was a part of their family. Rest in Peace, Eugene. You will be missed.
