EMIL HJERSTEDT

Bud (Emil Munroe) Hjerstedt, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, August 15, 2015. Bud was born to Emil and Crystal Hjerstedt on May 4, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Wood County, WI. He had fond memories of his childhood in and around Kellner, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Eunice, twin Emily, and Joyce. He married Sally (Sara Jean) Carpenter on May 17, 1952. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, sons: Monny (Jo), Mitch, Malcolm, and Marty (Cheri); eight grandchildren: Jenni (Paul) Kundinger, Erik Hjerstedt, Molly (Rick) Miller, Kayla (Jacob) Backhaus, Matt Hjerstedt, Brian (Lauren) Hjerstedt, Alex Hjerstedt, Emily Hjerstedt; and six great-grandchildren. Bud proudly served as a pilot and trained bombardiers in the United States Air Force from 1942-1947. He attended Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. He later moved to Neenah and pursued his love of photography. He and Sally started Munroe Studios in 1952. Bud enjoyed spending summer weekends with family at the cottage and winters motor homing with friends. He was a founding member of the Military Veterans Museum in Oshkosh and was very active in his church and community. He could often be seen photographing community events. Bud was also active in the Neenah Historical Society. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in their Chapel, 200 Church St., Neenah, with The Rev. Paul Huxtable officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Neenah First Presbyterian Church or the Military Veterans Museum. Full military rites will follow the service with the Neenah Menasha Veterans Honor Guard and the US Air Force.
