MARVIN MEYER

Marvin W. Meyer, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at home surrounded by family.  He was born to Walter and Violet Mayer on June 24, 1939.  He married Joyce Piette on April 23, 1960, and they shared 58 years together.  He was a graduate of Appleton high School and joined the Army at age 17. He honorably served in the 63rd Engineers in Lebanon and was also a certified demolition specialist.  Marvin could do any project he set his mind to.  This included building, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and painting, and he did them all to perfection.  His favorite past time was fishing, and he was always bringing home a meal.  Marvin made many trips to go wild game hunting in Canada and the western states, which were quite successful. 

Marvin was a Photoengraver at American Can for 41 years, and he had the honor of being the youngest Foreman ever there.  He enjoyed 18 healthy years of retirement, and spent them fishing, golfing, and hunting. He took great comfort talking about his Faith and service and achievements made in the Army by himself and his niece Lisa Piette Edwards.  He greatly treasured the few days she had on leave before his passing.   

Marvin is survived by his sons: Brian (Kathy), Scott (Staci), Marty (Jennifer), Andy (Tina), Phillip (Bridgett); daughter Shannon (Paul) Westphal; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Jack (Nan) Mayer; Shirley Slomski, and Beverly Lobermier.  Marvin is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister.

Marvin was an active member of St. Gabriel Church in Neenah.  He was a very honest and admirable man who took great pride in his service for his country, accomplishments in his career providing for his family, passing his heritage and beliefs onto his children, and continuing on with all generations.  He will be greatly missed by his baby Hiede who was always by his side, all the way until the end. 

The Funeral Mass for Marvin will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at St. Gabriel Parish, 900 Geiger Street, Neenah with Rev. Larry Seidl officiating.  A time of reflection will precede the funeral mass at 3:45 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church from Noon until 3:45 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
