RICHARD RINE

February 26, 1935 - December 31, 2023

Obituary

Richard Rine passed away peacefully in his home on December 31, 2023, with Carol, his loving wife of 66 years, by his side.

Richard Dean Rine was born on February 26, 1935 in Neenah, Wisconsin to parents Joseph Rine and Catherine Doucette.

He attended Neenah High School where he played football, basketball and baseball, and won two state high school doubles tennis championships. He went on to college at Lawrence where he continued to participate in sports and was later elected as a charter member to the Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame.

He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves, 274th Infantry Division.

In 1957, he married Neenah classmate Carol Bowman after a courtship that began in junior high. They had two children, Michael and Jane.

“Dick” worked for Thilmany Pulp and Paper/International Paper for 36 years, first as a District Sales Manager in Chicago where he lived in Arlington Heights, and then as the General Sales Manager following a transfer to Appleton in 1976.

Dick and Carol were long-time members of North Shore Golf Club where he served on the board of directors for six years. During his golf career he was lucky enough to achieve 3 holes in one! Carol and Dick also owned and enjoyed a cottage on Jungle Lake in northern Wisconsin for many years.

He is survived by his children Mike Rine (Laurie) and Janie Rine (Dell Hartmann), grandchildren Amy Andrews (Bryan), Scott Rine (Emily), and Sam Hartmann and great-grandchildren (Abbey, Olivia, Emerson, and Graham). He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Don (Carol).

Dick was a loving husband and father, and loved to fish, play golf, attend Packer games, and play cards with his buddies at Jack's Rose Hill Bar. His kids will remember his crazy dancing, raucous card games, family vacations to Florida and Yellowstone, and his constant love.

A memorial mass for Dick will be held at Noon on Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. Bernadette Parish, 2331 E. Lourdes Drive, Appleton. A visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
