MICHAEL BENTHEIN

Mike Benthein, age 44, of Neenah, passed away after an unexpected heart attack on Sunday October 29, 2023, at his home.  He was born in Manitowoc on October 20, 1979 to the late Randall and Kathleen (Check) Benthein.  Mike was married to Gerry Austin on May 21, 2005, and they were blessed with Drew, Anna, and Michael, their three children.

Mike's love and commitment to his family was unwavering; they were the most important things in his life.  Mike was a proud Manitowoc Ship and Badger Alumni, graduating from the UW-Madison School of Engineering, and earned a living as a Chemical Engineer.

Mike enjoyed camping, fishing, cycling, football, and providing candid feedback to the Badgers and Packers coaching staffs.  Mike provided frequent adventures for his family that will be cherished forever.  In addition, Mike was a charter member of a loosely affiliated group of fishermen known as the DF, whom he shared his vast knowledge of Great Lakes fishing with (as well as his wit and zest for life).  Mike's humor, humility, and character will continue to leave a lasting impression on the lives of so many.  

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Gerry Benthein; children Drew, Anna and Michael Benthein; brother Todd (Mary) Benthein; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Randy and Kathy.

The memorial service for Mike will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Congregational UCC, 1511 Nicolet Blvd, Neenah WI.  A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
