NICHOLAS CANAN

Nicholas Donald Canan, age 26, of Green Bay passed away unexpectedly on December 21,  2023.

He was born William Nicholas Aaron Westphal on September 12, 1997 in Neenah to Christophe and Heidi Westphal. Nick and his younger brother Michael were later adopted by Steve and Patti Canan of Little Chute. He was loved by both families. 

Nick adored and loved with all his heart, his daughter Winter Rose, who will be 2 in February. 

Nick was a kind, loving, sweet man. He had amazing talents. He was artistic,  loved to draw and had a passion for music and cooking. He was caring, funny, understanding,  and creative, and loved his families and spending time with them. 

William's (Nick) smile and laugh were contagious. He could light up a room with his smile. He loved being silly and making people laugh. William (Nick) also gave really amazing hugs and could melt away any sadness or hurt and his happy hugs were so real and deep.

When Nick and his brother Mike were little, they always loved going to Great Aunt Carol's cottage in Mountain on Chute Pond. They would play games, ride bumper boats, swim, fish, and just goof off. Aunt Carol has a special spot in her heart for both of them. And will dearly miss Nick.

Aunt Francine and Uncle Tim look forward to Christmas time when we would all get together with Nick and Mike's half brother Mason and his mother Becky from Manitowoc. This year was no different,  he was looking forward to our party coming up soon. He loved Aunt Francine's cooking, and she appreciated his compliments. She will miss his smile and laughter, and seeing him with his baby girl,  Winter Rose. Love and miss you, Nick.  Hope you are at peace with the Lord, and are fishing with Grandpa Glen in heaven. 

Nick is survived by his daughter Winter Rose Stock Canan, her mother and Nick's special friend Keara Stock. His parents Heidi Knight,  Christophe Westphal and special friend Kim;  Steve and Patti Canan; brother Michael Canan, half brother Mason Ruelle Westphal and his mother Becky Ruelle. His sisters Kristin Canan, Kari (Kassy) Canan, brother Logan (Andrea) Canan. Aunt Francine (Tim) Harris, Uncle Aaron (Oahn/Kim) Meltz, their children Gavin and Natalie Meltz. Aunt Jessica Kimpel-Knight and her sons Caleb and Brady Kimpel, and Uncle Chris Meltz. Grandparents  Joseph Knight and Deborah Scott along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Glen and Nicole Westphal, great grandparents Robert and Mary Knight, and Delmer and Betty Lee Scott.

A private memorial service is being held for family and friends with Westgor Funeral Home in Neenah. A trust is being planned for his daughter Winter Rose.

To live in the hearts we've left behind, is not to die.
