Obituary

TOMLIN

Art Tomlin's body let go comfortably and peacefully on April 18, 2025 at 20:55, shortly after hearing the many goodbyes of his closest loved ones, with reassurance that his joyful and honorable legacy would live on through all who knew him.

Though he passed at the young age of 65, Art lived a valiant and adventurous life during his 46 years as a father, 22 years in the Navy, and over 30 years in pursuit of his various professional passions. He was a man with an extraordinary sense of honor, irresistible charm, sharp wit, contagious sense of humor, and eloquent intellectual brilliance. He loved good food, great music, dancing, fast luxury cars with great handling, old books, and Irish coffee. He was a mensa, a freemason, a Navy veteran, a small business owner, a talented network engineer, a loving father, and a wise mentor to many.

Art always said his motto for life was best summarized by Hunter S. Thomspon. “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!'” Before his decline, he was asked what his message to the world would be. His answer was simply, “the importance of perseverance and nobles oblige.”

Art is survived by his children: Tamara Doepke; Ariana Tomlin; and James Tomlin; grandchildren: Alina; Joshua; Vanessa; and Alyssa; brothers, Scott and Bill Tomlin; his favorite aunt, Delores; and countless other family members, fellow veterans, and friends.

He is finally rejoined with his beloved children that were lost at birth, as well as his son, Kyle Tomlin; mother, Zona Bius; and father, Raymond Lee Tomlin; sister, Marti; and sister-in-law, Marcel; uncle, Carl; cousin, Enoch; his dear friends: Mr. Jim Meyer; Jim Adams; Jeff Bosckay; Bruce Bigrig; Dave Berkowitz; and many others that have been eagerly awaiting his arrival in the afterlife.

Art's family would like to formally thank the care team at Alten Haus, especially Justina, Natalie, Danielle, and Nisha; as well as his hospice nurse, Beverly, for their incredible care and support.

A private family service will be held.

Art was a special kind of man, more willing than others to pass along his knowledge, often carried by a dash of wit and humor. I will always treasure the times we strolled around during port visits.

My sincere condolences to Art's family. I was fortunate to serve with Art in the US Navy with VAQ138 aboard the USS Nimitz. His quick wit, humor and positivity made a difference for all who knew him during those long deployments. Fair Winds and Following Seas Art.

Art was a great cousin. Very intelligent guy. He showed us around Oak Harbor and Penn Cove Washington when we visited in 2018 and I'm glad he was able to live in such a beautiful part of the country. It was a far cry from the City of Chicago where we grew up. God bless those of us who will miss him

Tom was a man who was dedicated to knowledge and excellence. I'll never forget back in 2010 how I created an online business and paid to have a website created. Tom reached out to me and told me how it could be improved. He was pretty diplomatic, because I was given a website that was built by incompetent people and Tom instantly saw all the mistakes and helped me figure it out. Thanks to him, my future online endeavors went much better!
