Obituary

William T. Devine, age 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Madison, Wisconsin to Raymond and Eunice Devine, Bill remained a proud Wisconsinite throughout his life, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1962 and the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in 1967.

While in college, Bill met the love of his life, Ginny Stone. The two were married in 1968 and soon moved to Appleton, where Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit took root. Bill first worked for Hoffman Drug before opening a franchise pharmacy called Union Prescription Center. He eventually assumed full ownership, renaming it Consumer Prescription Center. Over the years, Bill became part owner of nearly two dozen pharmacies throughout Wisconsin. He was especially passionate about diabetes care and partnered with others to establish a consulting business, The Diabetic Shoppe, helping patients better manage their health and improve their quality of life.

Bill’s retirement was as active as his career. He dedicated his time to Habitat for Humanity, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, SCORE, and the UW Alumni Association. A man of deep faith, Bill generously shared his time with his parish community—teaching high school religion, and serving on the parish and finance councils, as well as the social justice committee.

Bill also had an adventurous spirit. He and Ginny traveled the world with friends and family, visiting all seven continents. To celebrate their 65th birthdays, Bill and his best friend, Foss Hooper, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa—an accomplishment that reflected his determination and zest for life. He and Ginny were members of a neighborhood gourmet group, always eager to try new cuisines, and an adventure group that led them to experiences as daring as parachuting from an airplane.

Above all, Bill was a family man. He and Ginny were blessed with three children and seven grandchildren, who were his greatest joys. Known affectionately as “Grandpa Gummy” for his fondness for handing out treats, he spent his happiest moments playing games with, reading to, and teasing his grandkids. The family shared many summer vacations traveling across the country, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Eunice Devine.  He is survived by his wife Ginny; daughters Dawn O’Brien (Dave George) and Katie Devine; son Timothy Devine (Laura); and grandchildren Carter and Keegan O’Brien, Calli and Carson Ferkovich, and Ben, Sam, and Ethan Devine. He is further survived by his brothers Timothy Devine (Elizabeth), David Devine (Susie Morris), and Kevin Devine (Betsy).

The family would like to thank Ascension Oncology, Compassus Hospice and close friends and neighbors for their compassionate care, comfort and kindness during Bill’s final days. His legacy of faith, generosity, humor, and love will live on in all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W Pine St, Appleton, WI 54914. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 921 Midway Road, Menasha, WI 54952 or Compassus Hospice, 816 Winneconne Avenue, Neenah, WI 54956.
