Obituary
Carla J. Wege, 76, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her in love. She was born February 2, 1946, to Harry and Alice Leppla in Dale, Wisconsin. She met the love of her life, Ronald Wege, at his cousin's wedding and was married on October 5, 1968. Their marriage of 53 years brought them three children and six grandchildren, who gave them great joy and pride in their lives.
Carla was a doting mom and loving grandmother and truly loved spending time with her family outdoors, swimming and boating. She enjoyed time spent snuggling babies, caring for children, and provided daycare in her home for many years. There were many wonderful stories that she enjoyed retelling in the years that followed. She loved being a grandma and attended every concert, recital, sporting event, and banquet she could, and loved to hear about the grandkids' activities and experiences.
She loved music and was a wonderful singer who brought joy to the many people that were able to listen to her talent. She sang for many weddings, funerals, and family reunions, in the church choir and in the car. She loved to dance the polka, and was a product of her accordion and “hum-strum” playing family. She also loved to dance with her husband, Ron, and often enjoyed spending a portion of her Sundays watching polka bands and dancers on local television.
Her silly and funny side would often unveil during family gatherings and holidays. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting the casino, and winning “big” on the penny, nickel, and dime slot machines! She had an incredible gift of razor-sharp memory. Her ability to remember dates, birthdays, phone numbers, and addresses was like no other, and she would often prove it!
One of her favorite destinations was the Hawaiian Islands, having gone there with Ron for a couple's vacation, and then again with her entire family in 2008 to celebrate their 40th-anniversary renewal of vows on Waikiki Beach. She had the “gift of gab” and was able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone and would often talk about her grandkids to those she met. Friends and family could always count on her staple dishes for gatherings, and Christmas cookie baking was always a celebrated tradition. She regularly made cakes for her kids' and grandkids' birthdays throughout the many years, which became a sign of her love and affection.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Ronald; children: Keri (Charlie) Pritzl, Chad (Matt Luther) Wege, and Cory (Brenda) Wege; as well as her grandchildren: Maddy, Jacob, Elly, Benjamin, Gavin, and Katilyn. She is further survived by her sisters: Carolyn (John) Langner and Donna Warmbier; brother, Jim (Jackie) Leppla; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Westgor Funeral Home in Neenah, on Thursday, May 19 from 4 to 7 pm. Additionally visitation will also be open from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 118 Oak St., Neenah on Friday, May 20. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers, which can be made to National Scleroderma Foundation or Scleroderma Research Foundation to help fund research that will one day help others to overcome this devastating disease.
