Obituary
Shirley M. Ryan, age 94, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah. She was born April 8, 1928, in Greenville, WI, daughter of the late Henry and Rose Manteufel. She lived her childhood years in Maribel. Shirley graduated from Manitowoc High School and then received her Bachelor of Science from Carroll College. She lived most of her adult life in Neenah, most recently at Island Shores.
Shirley met her husband Robert “Bud” Ryan in Neenah singing in the local choir. They married in 1951. He preceded her in death August 10, 2013.
Survivors include her children: John Ryan (Julia Jackson), Teresa (Mark) Jepperson; grandchildren: Molly Ryan, Nick (Amber) Jepperson, Jake (Christy) Jepperson, Luke Jepperson; great grandchildren: Josh Jepperson, MacKenzie Jepperson, and Cameron Jepperson
Shirley was preceded in death by her sons: Timothy and David Ryan; brothers and sisters: Eunice (Syl) Larsen, Orin Manteufel, Lyle (Bernice) Manteufel, and Doris (Vernon) Kramer.
Shirley was employed as a Med Tech with Theda Clark Medical Center for over 25 years. Shirley enjoyed her winters in Florida with Bud, playing golf and having their regular martini cocktail hours. She was an avid card player, enjoying playing bridge, gin rummy and sheepshead. She also knitted, making afghan blankets, Christmas stockings, and sweaters for her kids, grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews. She enjoyed gardening and planting her geraniums in window boxes every year.
She was an avid sports fan, following the Brewers and Packers. Over the years she attended the Brewers world series and the Packer's Ice bowl.
Shirley was an active resident at Island Shores. She was known as the resident expert at bingo. She loved playing cards, cross-stitching name tags for resident's walkers, running Packer game day pools and playing Happy Birthday on piano for everyone's birthday.
Bud and Shirley loved traveling. They took many trips, including, Alaska, Ireland, and Europe to see some of the places where Bud served in WW2. On their 50th wedding anniversary they took the entire family to Florida for a Disney Park and Disney Cruise vacation.
A private funeral service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Island Shores for the great care received over the last 9 years.
