Obituary

Richard W Meyer (Dick) began his journey into Heaven at the age of 81 on November 26, 2022 at Ascension Hospital Appleton surrounded by his beloved family.

Dick was born July 31, 1941 in Neenah to the late Herbert and Olive Werner Meyer. Dick and Janet Philipsen Meyer wed on July 16, 1966.

Dick was a 1960 graduate of Menasha High School. After graduation, Dick served in the US Navy from 1960 to 1964 as an Aerographers Mate. Soon after leaving the Navy, Dick joined the Oshkosh Northwestern as a News Photographer for 35 years.

Always friendly with a positive attitude and camera in hand. Dick was happy to help anyone and volunteer in the community to include his church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Menasha. Dick was very dedicated to his country and for years was an active member of the Menasha VFW Post 2126, serving two years as Post Commander and State Photographer. Dick was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed helping host their Friday Fish events.

Besides his family who was he was very proud of, Dick loved Menasha and the northern Wisconsin area near Summit and Post Lakes where he spent as much time as possible.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Janet; sons, Keith and Keane (Sarah Kamp) Meyer; and daughter, Kay (Casey) Meyer Nygaard, and their children, Dick's “favorite grandchildren,” Bella and Jace Nygaard, and his brother, George (Mary Danielson) Meyer. Dick is also survived by Janet's family, Joan Van Krey, Kenneth (Dot Metko) Philipsen, and Clement (Geraldine Dunbar) Philipsen. Not to mention several nieces, nephews and friends.

Dick was proceeded in death by his Mother and Father-in-law, George and Ann Kempen Philipsen; and brothers-in-law, Allen Philipsen and Tony Van Krey.

A Memorial Mass for Dick will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 320 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha, with Fr. Judah Pigon officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The Meyer family would like to thank Drs. Poola, Ciske, and Freeman for their great care and compassion they showed to Dick. Also to Theresa, Alyssa and Lindsey for care and compassion to Dick and Family.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Richard "Dick" aka "Click Click",for the obvious reason of being a excellent photographer!! I just learned of his passing today, sadly.Dick was so kind to me and my family.He even helped me move, while our duplex was being renovated in 2009' I didn't even have to ask I would see him almost daily riding his bike passed our duplex or his grey truck. He'd stop and say hello,and ask how things were going. He took 2 of the best pictures of my Dad and I together,at the last Banta picnic,at Jefferson Park He was one of the kindest souls to be sure.I graduated with his son Keane, who incidentally,was my drivers Ed partner and who I admire. Dick was even open to teaching me how to be a great photographer.Circumstances never allowed for that to happen. Gosh I knew something was up,as I have not seen him drive by or ride his bike.My heart just knew . My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends blessed to have known him.He will never be forgotten by me I sometimes felt like he was more than a friend to us.He was like family.I think he was hoping that Keane and I would get together,he seemed to hint for that . Deep Sigh 😔 Rest in peace Dick, I miss you and Thank you for those wonderful pictures and for being there,when I truly needed help moving.I had some cameras and equipment,that I always wanted you to see. I have thought about that and never got to get around to it.If you only knew how much it meant to me your help,at a time I needed help and you selflessly did it.You certainly earned your wings .

Janet & family, Feeling very sad to hear about Dick's passing. My first memory of Dick was when he worked for the Northwestern. He was a friend of the family & took many pictures. He was also mine & Dennis's wedding photographer. Through the years I'd see him in & out of church & he would have come across pictures of the family that he gave me to share with my sisters. He enjoyed reminiscing about the family and sharing details about the area we lived in. Thanks for the memories Dick! God bless you & your family Janet.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dick. He was such a good friend to Mike and me. His photographs followed Mike from running for Neenah alderman to his stint in the Wisconsin Senate. He also photographed our wedding. I still have many of his pictures and I will always treasure them.

I’m am so sorry for the loss of Dick  I have know dick since the day he Was driving the ford pinto  I worked across the street  From the northwestern  office I am also a member of the vfw 2126 We served together on the NMHG For quite a years  May almighty God bless  Your family  May Jesus welcome Dick Into the kingdom of heaven Lots for the memories I old  In my heart
