Obituary
Carol Shimek passed away peacefully July 29, 2024 at the age of 82. She was born April 25, 1942 in Neenah, the daughter of Herb and Verna Kruse. Carol was a graduate of Neenah High School and met her husband, Dick Shimek, while he was a Vicar at Trinity Lutheran Church, completing his education as a future Minister. Together they moved to Stambaugh, MI and then Eau Claire, MI to serve their congregations. Their last move was back to Neenah to serve the congregation at Grace Lutheran Church.
While in Michigan, Carol started baking and decorating cakes, which progressed into teaching cake decorating classes. After moving back to Neenah, she eventually opened her own shop, “Carol's Cake, Candy, Classes, and Supplies.” She also worked at Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company for a number of years until her retirement.
Carol loved flowers and gardening. Her specialty was growing orchids, and she was a member of a local orchid club. In her retirement years, she enjoyed baking cookies and candy with the help of Dick and delivering them to all their family and friends. They loved decorating their house both inside and outside for all the holidays. They also traveled during these years to Panama, Alaska, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. She was devoted to rescuing dogs and loved her Royal, Blaze, and Kenzie.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Verna Kruse; and her husband, Dick.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Connie) Shimek of Londonderry, NH; and her son, Mark Shimek of Neenah, WI. She is also survived by her sister, Barb (Tom) Wilde; brother-in-law, Donald (Rebecca) Luckstein; sister-in-law, Linda (Fritz) Peters; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to a renovation project at Carol's church, Trinity Lutheran, Neenah, the funeral will be held at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service. Carol will be laid to rest with Dick at Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah.
The family would like to thank Copperstone Assisted Living and Moments Hospice for the care they gave Carol during the last few months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund.
